Hey guys, my director wants us to start looking for shows to do next year, so I thought that this would be a great place to get some advice. Normally we would just vote on shows but we need to be more selective next year. The problem is this, half of the boys in our drama club are graduating and we will only have around 6 left. Now we don't know how many freshmen boys we will get, but were trying not to count on anything.
So here's the proposition our director gave us:
Find a good play with a small cast and few boys to do next year.
Find a good musical with only a small number of boys to do next year.
Here's a list of plays and musicals we have done in the past years so don't suggest them: Ros and Guil are Dead, Suesical, Laramie Project, Footloose, Antigone, Ragtime, Midsummer night's dream, Once on this Island, and The Wiz.
Thanks you for all help because it is very much appreciated.

Bye Bye Birdie, Guys and Dolls, Forbidden Planet (shakespeare and rock and roll hahah), Songs for a New World...(if your boys have the voices), Into the Woods ummmmm CATS! ........kidding. You're a Good Man Charlie Brown perhaps?
Anatomy of Gray (great black box type of show, no set, really simple, shows off acting nicely)
Native Son (there's an equal amount of black people and white people...i promise)
that's all i can think of right now, but ummm yes

I second Guys and Dolls, Little Shop, and Bye Bye Birdie.
We've done Once Upon a Mattress, Hello Dolly, The Wizard of Oz, Pirates of Penzance (spelling?); they all turned out to be pretty good

For your fall play- I HIGHLY suggest "Life on the Bowery (or the Liar's Doom)". It was the fall play my sophomore year, and a favorite of many of the actors and other students alike.
Plenty of female roles that actors can have a lot of fun with.

*The Dining Room- A.R. Gurney
*12 Angry Jurors- usually 12 Angry Men, but can be done with any gender
*Rumors- Neil Simon
*Women and Wallace- a little racy within some scenes, but those can be cut. there's one lead guy and it's a play that runs through his life relating to women, from when he was a child... losing his virginity... etc.
*Little Shop
*The Pajama Game- we did it and didn't have a lot of guys- there's really only 2 main guy parts and a few men ensemble.
*You're a Good Man Charlie Brown or Snoopy- small cast, need everyone to be strong singers and actors, though, because each part is a principal part.
-hope i helped.

This year and next year we have almost no boys, and here's what we did/are doing.
You Can't Take It With You
On the 20th Century
Into The Woods
The Laramie Project, which you have done already.

this might be a bad suggestion.. but maybe taming of the shrew? i'm gonna be doing it this fall, we changed some male roles to female roles because there were more talented girls than guys.. and it seems like it's gonna work really well. we changed Grumio, Baptista, and Biondello. (i got the part of Grumio! but we changed it to Grumia (: )
also, just a general suggestion for shakespeare, you can put a fun twist on it.. like for shrew, we're doing it BOLLYWOOD! haha, it's gonna be interesting!

Guys and Dolls really? I think the lack of guys would be an issue with that... Sure girls can play men but I always hate when that happens (coming from a past Big Julie).
Maybe Arsenic and Old Lace? I don't know the male to female ratio of that tho. I do agree with the Boyfriend, though I hate the show. Definetly Little Shop.

Thanks for all the help so far you guys!
There's a lot of good suggestions on here of some shows I hadn't thought of and some shows I hadn't heard of before.
So, uh, thanks again!
