What is your favorite book on World History? I'm looking around for some good books.

I'm looking for non-fiction that is an overview of World History. Something like an essentials of World History book.

this is the link to a great, comprehensive volume of art history. events and culture always seem to make more sense and seem more palpable to me this way.

My company started Visable Ink Press and then sold it to some co-workers, and it has really taken off. This is a fun book that is really interesting.

Have you read No Ordinary Time? It's not really a world history book so much as a double biography of people heavily involved in world history, but I really liked it.

The Venture of Islam, Vols. 1-3, is also really interesting. A lot of Hodgson's terminology never got adopted, and the book can get awfully dry, but it's still a tremendous source on Islamic history. Shaban's Islamic History provides an interesting counterpoint to Hodgson's traditional view of Islam, even if I don't entirely agree with it.

And even though this is strictly American and not exactly a history book, I'd recommend The Politics Presidents Make to anyone interested in politics; it's a fascinating read.

Uh...yeah. None of those are what you asked for. Sorry. re: History Buffs
