You don't need headshots to be an extra. Just register with Central Casting.

Basically, you go at the specific time listed for being union or non-union, you fill out paperwork, and then they take a picture of you to use for your profile information. There was an optional $25 fee, I forget what for, but it definitely was not required. I will say though, work is not very consistent. At least that was my experience. Maybe others are different.

Posted: 9/10/11 at 6:27amBut don't expect extra work to be a stepping stone -- it isn't very easy to get noticed through that process. But have fun trying (and I really mean that -- not in the sarcastic way.)

^ That is very true. Some shoots I have done have had over 100 people. If you are non-union you can get SAG waivers from time to time too, but it is really difficult. You need 3 of those to join just by doing extra work.
And another thing, any casting agency that forces you to pay money to them for such things as head shots or classes are probably scams. No company should make you pay them to work for them.
