"Many US Airways passengers who endured a crash landing in the Hudson River 12 days ago say they appreciate the $5,000 that the airline has offered — but some say it's not enough.
Joe Hart, a salesman from Charlotte who suffered a bloody nose and bruises, says he "would like to be made whole for the incident." "
In my book, he is already a "Hole" of some sort....
"not Enough"

Posted: 1/27/09 at 1:27pmGetting the value for things lost in the crash I understand. If you lost cell phones, laptops, luggage etc, then 5000 might not honestly be enough to cover it, and I can see the passengers wanting enough for that. However, citing emotional distress or suing the airline for a completely unavoidable accident where they were LUCKY to have had such an incredibly well trained and expert pilot in control seems like someone looking to take advantage and get a handout. I suppose it was inevitable that some would take that tack...

Ingrates! For being alive and having flown with Captain Sully, I'd even be satisfied without the $5k! But I guess that's just me.

Second call: a lawyer.

i heard that john edwards is fronting a class action lawsuit on behalf of the passengers. they are seeking $28 million in compensation for mental anguish from canada. they were after all canadian geese.
this comes after peta filed suit against the faa on behalf of the geese demanding that all air traffic in america be stopped due to its detrimental effect on avian-americans.

Well at least one person from that flight has put things into perspective:
Amber Wells of Charlotte says she's so thankful to have survived and to be with her 9-month-old daughter, Rayley, that she hasn't had time to think about her belongings.
She says she lost $2,000 of nursing equipment and a laptop computer, as well as a checked bag and a carry-on bag.
"Everything that's gone can be replaced," says Wells, 34, a senior manager for NASCAR. "My life cannot be replaced."

I'm not a lawyer, but in order for a jury or judge (I don't know if this would be a jury case) to find for these people, wouldn't there have to be a CAUSE - some negligence on the part of the airline? Based on what we've heard, that doesn't exist...
Or maybe I'm naive and would like to think our justice system actually works.

"avian-americans."
lol, except I think they were Canadian geese. I wonder if they were cleared to use American air space?

Posted: 1/27/09 at 4:44pmI'd suggest Canardian Canadians, but I think that means "duck," not "goose."
