Quite a bit nervous. Have not done this much singing in a role before. Anything I should do to prepare?
Have you done a Sondheim show before? If not, make sure you spend a lot of time on the music since it's very challenging. When my high school did it we once spent an hour working on just four bars.
It's a great role though. Just remember to relax and have fun. Congrats!

Just sing. A lot. Get your voice used to it.
This is a very specific note, and I'm so sorry if it seems ridiculous!
Don't shy away from the half-step clash at the end of the "Johanna" in act 2 (the one with Todd & Anthony singing together). The clash when Todd sings "Good-bye....." and then you sing "I'll steal..... you." It will feel horribly wrong to sing a half-step clash, but it sounds amazing! Hold your note and don't be pulled down by Todd!
That's my favorite bit of singing in the entire musical, that's why I'm so picky.
God, I'm such a nerd. Sorry!
where will this enthralling evening of theatre be, Cruel?
Hell...

Congratulations on the part! Just make sure to take good care of your voice with lots of water, and then tea or whatever works for you
Feel free to fall off of a very high set piece.

If you play the part as suicidal as you sound here, you'll be fine...
jk. PRACTICE! READ THE MUSIC CAREFULLY. and don't be so hard on yourself, it's Sondheim.
I'm in Sweeney Todd right now at my high school and all I can say is do the songs over and over until you get them perfect and when they're perfect do them some more to keep them perfect. Were getting scarily close to opening night and I'm, sadly just now fixing a few more notes than I'd like. I know that our Anthony is amazing and I hope that you do just as well.
oh... and...
MAKE NOTES OF EVERYTHING
especially on your sheet music
a lot of it is really specific so write it down or trust me,
You will not remember.
Congratulations!
First of all, it is a great role and you get AT LEAST ONE GREAT SONG!!!!!!
Second, it's not everyday that this show gets done, and to get a great role when it is done......
CONGRATS!!!! Play the chord the piano is playing while you sing specific notes that screw you up. Makes sense, right?
