My roommate and one of the girls from down the hall watch it EVERY Monday night and you are NOT allowed to talk during the show. If I had a penny for every gasp and "Oh my god--NO!!!" I heard tonight, I could get the US out of this recession.
I just don't get it. Anyone else?
I'm with you, I've watched about 5 minutes of the show and I just don't understand the appeal. Its so mindless.
I love when Joel McHale shows clips of Whasshisface Westwick playing hte most serious 18 year old on the face of the planet. its hilalrious.

I have nver seen a moment of "Gossip Girl" except for when Joel McHale mocks it on the Soup. That I love....
Blair Waldorf does not approve of this post.
My 2 roommates TRIED to get me to watch it and I don't get it either... I MIGHT have watched it if it was on with Melrose Place and the og 90210...
but yeah, everyone just screws everyone! It's like Aspect of Love: The TV Series!
I watched the first 5 or so episodes and lost interest.
I've watched a couple of episodes, and I don't get the appeal either. But then, I don't really watch any of the new programming on the CW now. It's like it was all made for teenage and college aged females.
Just throwing it out there, if you don't get it then don't watch it.
The most of Gossip Girl I have seen is that little clip that VonTussleGirl posted in this thread.
And that is enough for me.
Don't knock the show. It gives needful employment to graduates of the Ryan Phillipe Pouty Rich White Boy School of Acting.
Oh GOD!
That show is soul killing!
I wanted to like it, since several of my friends are fans. But I couldn't get into it.
I like the commercials for it, though.
I love it because it's brainless!!!
Edit: But I can understand why you could hate it for the same reason. My whole schedule is AP classes, I need some stupid.

I LOVE the show !!! I think it's great fun and has the BEST male ensemble eye-candy on TV ever !!! Different types of guys, and all soooo sexy !!!
Seriously though, what is with that Westwick guys character? Is he like terminally serious?

Lol, I totally see what you guys mean. And yet, I can't stop watching. As ridiculous as Chuck is, I think he's my favorite character.

I really enjoyed the books. My cousin - who's 7 years younger than I am - got me into them when they came out. They were a bit of a guilty pleasure.
For me, the show doesn't compare to the sleeziness of the books. The books were dirtier. lol I watch it from time to time - though my munchkins are absolutely ADDICTED. You can only talk during commercials. God forbid the phone rings
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
I've only seen one episode the whole way through, but I don't understand how they all hang out in upscale bars. Aren't they supposed to be 16?
Cracking up at VonTussleGirl!
The show mostly sucks, but the people and fashion are hot. It has the occasional redeeming episode. I actually thought the show where Erik came out was handled pretty well.
It's a good show to watch with your friends and only be half into. As in, you don't care if you talk through it or miss a few episodes. It's just fluff.
insertclevernamehere -- Lots of reasons. They're rich. Well made fake ID's and some money thrown at the bouncer. Plus, a lot of them have influence where they go (for instance, Chuck's dad owns or invests in a lot of places) and Serena is near celebrity status, so she can obviously get in.
Oh and they're hot girls. Going to bars. That's usually not that hard.

I have only heard of the show from The Soup. I have never watched this show, the new 90210 show, or any other shows that include tangerine-colored persons that talk about nothing.
Now a show that teenagers can watch and has some valuable life lessons and good acting, I suggest watching Degrassi.
I like the show and am VERY glad your roommate is obsessed with it Parks- it gives me someone to talk to about it on Tuesdays.
That said - if someone talks during the show, that is fine. I don't even watch it until 9:30 because my roommate and I watch something else when it it on.
It is fun, it is fluff, and I know a LOT of people who watch it for the style.
