It was GREAT! Action packed to the brim but SO good. All of the actors did an amazing job, especially Ewan. He had to be two characters, and these characters talked to each other, so I'm assuming it's not easy acting and yelling at someone who's not even there but he did amazing!
Ewan full screen is beautiful.
Scarlett Johansson I hold in the highest regard she's stunning and wonderful!
My friends and I, with much embarrassment to my guy friends, clapped and cheered at the ending credits. And we clapped during opening credits when his name came up. Yes we are obnixious.
It was just a really, really, really good movie. I highly recommend it for when it is officially released.

lol. When I first read the subject, I read "The Beach" and I'm thinking "What the crap is she talking about?" Then I started reading the post...
yes. It is a good movie. How long have you been on this Ewan kick?

Whoops, didn't see this thread...
Just saw this movie at an advanced screening today... WOW. I think this one's gonna be huge. It got a standing ovation from the crowd when it finished, and my friends and I couldn't stop quoting our favorite lines throughout the night. We're going to see it again when it opens on the 22nd.
I second everything SallyBrown said about Ewan and Scarlett!

See there was no standing ovation besides me and my friend because everyone else was old. lol and they didnt want to stand
To tell the truth, I wasn't expecting a really good movie. I knew Ewan would be amazing as usual but the trailer gives NOTHING. So I was so happy at the end because it was just SO SO SO S OS OS SOOO good. And it was very Hollywood blockbuster type but not as much as War of the Worlds, EWan and Scarlett weren't like invincible. And the story was just so clever and well thought out, the special effects insanely good. And I loved the whole two-Ewan thing. hehehehe like when clone Ewan starts imitating real Ewan's scottish accent. Hehehehe and the jokes and just...everything was good! REALLY good!

I LOVED the double Ewan thing, too! I'm a huge Ewan fan, and I totally freaked out when I realized there were two Ewans! Jeez, I thought everything the Ewan clone (I shall call him that) said was hillarious. "Where's the can? I need to find him, he's taking a dump!" There were SO MANY great lines... I don't want to give anything away, so I won't re-type them, but darn. It's hard to resist.
I truly believe there were no flaws to this movie.

Me too More Cowbell!
YES TWO EWANS MADE ME SO HAPPY! Although, real guy Ewan was an ass hole. But clone Ewan was lovely! Plus real guy Ewan was still beautiful..and Scottish!
My friend is now saying "****e" instead of ****. It's amusing.

Ha! I also loved when real-life Ewan called clone Ewan a wanker!
My favorite quote (I can't resist)... "Hey baby, what's your number?" "Two Delta!"

Yeah I love that "hey baby whats your number?" part. She was cute when she answered!!!
Now I say we bring on the spoilers since it seems it is only the two of us...

Done.
I loved Ewan's last fight in the end. Although..the whole sharp thing in his back....dangling..OUCH

Yeah, my friend kept saying it looked like a fishing rod. It kinda did.
I loved how Clone Ewan realized that if he copied Real Ewan's Scottish accent, he could get away with the switch. That was clever. Also, I liked that they used Scarlett's real Calvin Klein commercials and Ewan McGregor's real publicity pictures in the movie.

Yes! It was smart how he just covered it up and acted like the real Ewan..good stuff
I wonder what's going to happen with the clones though? I mean, are they just going to have 2 of every person walking around?
#16re: I just saw The Island
Posted: 7/10/05 at 1:42pmWell, there's only going to be one Ewan, since his real self got killed. And real Scarlett is dying soon, so there will only be one Scarlett. The rest... I don't know. *cough*Sequel*cough*

Yes yes and Ewan and Scarlett leave in that UBER COOL BOAT THAT I SHOULD BE ON WITH EWAN!!!
I mean- what
but yeah the other clones- there's so many of 'em!

Do you think they actually had sex (Clone Ewan/Clone Scarlett)? They show them making out topless during the love scene, but that doesn't neccessarily mean they had sex. They have no idea what sex is, so how would they even know how to do it? Even if they did find the right place to, um, insert things... I think they would stop once it started to hurt (since Clone Scarlett is a virgin) and think they were doing something wrong.
I don't know, I was debating this with my friend and found it something interesting to ponder.

What a terrible bore of a movie. Good science fiction uses its story to put forth a societal discussion, to talk about the world, to bring issues to light, Michael Bay science fiction uses its story to give the characters a reason to get chased around for ninety minutes while alternately yelling 'RUN!' 'STOP' 'GO' or 'WAIT' at one another.
And, really, I could forgive Bay his excesses as a director if the movie wasn't so damn boring. It's just lifeless and uninteresting and the only interesting thing to do during it is try and find all the better movies being ripped off throughout. (Soylent Green, Dark City, Logan's Run, Blade Runner, Coma.)
I don't know why I keep thinking that one day Michael Bay is going to make a smart or interesting movie. He's clearly happy making his endless stream of crappy action movies.
My personal 'favorite' part was when they got on the back of the Mack truck carrying the massive metal spools and despite the fact that his entire cargo was bouncing down the highway and five to seven cars had been blown up by them and despite the fact that military operations helicopters and those crazy little air cycles were trying to shoot him and run him off the road, the truck driver, who had no idea he had movie stars in the back of his truck, just kept driving full speed ahead so that the cycles had to blow out his tires so he could crash dramatically.
Or maybe he knew he was in a Michael Bay movie and wanted to see what kind of cool chain of events his truck crashing could set off.
No fault of the actors here, but 'The Island' is a big, fat turkey, no matter how many times Ewan and Scarlett stare longingly at one another with Enya music playing behind them ...with an alarmingly bright sun framing them just perfectly.

More Cowbell- my friend said that too. We walked out of the theater and he said "How do you have sex with your clothes on?"
JohnPopa- you didn't like it? That's true, the truck still driving was rather odd but at that moment I didn't reall pay attention to that

Ouch. Bay comes in 4th place with a $12 million dollar opening -- losing out to three returning movies, including the month old 'Fantastic Four.'
It'll be lucky to get $50 million in domestic box office at this pace.
This is infamous depths as flops go if people don't suddenly start going to this movie. We're talking 'Ishtar.'

I thought it was called dry humping. Well, I call it that...
My brother keeps playing The Island trailer (as well as many other movie trailers) over and over. It's got to the point that I'm quite sick of it.
#23re: I just saw The Island
Posted: 7/24/05 at 10:34pmI liked the movie. It had plenty of action and an interesting story. I go to the theater to be to enjoy a show not pick apart every little detail. That Sean Bean, Dr. Merrick, is a hunk. He always plays those bad boys.

And it's my tendency to enjoy works that hold up under basic intellectual scrutiny, regardless of the volume of action.
