After a week of 3 hour rehearsals for a Christmas show, my voice is pretty weak (not gone, but not "normal" either), and I have a solo in the performance that begins tonight, and I need something that will bring some of it back. I gulped down a huge bottle of Dasani today and it doesn't seem like it is doing much to help. Does "Throat coat" actually work?
well, it helps, but won't make your voice stronger.
only vocal rest will do that. load up on the tea and lots of honey and lemon, and be quiet for the rest of the day.
I'm sure you know, but don't whisper. that makes the voice worse.
Yes . . . I am on a talking/singing strike until tonight. And I am still downing water (I have peed more in the past few hours than I have in the last couple of days). haha.
Be careful, too much water will actually be bad.
Throat coat is amazing.
if you have a health store or a Whole Foods market, go in there and look for Singer's Saving Grace or slippery elm spray. They're both sprays but they're not going to numb your throat the same way Chloraseptic does. They taste like death but they will REALLY help you.
No, I don't have a health store near me (the closest one is over a hour away). Would an old fashioned drug store have some?
I'd call before running all over town trying to find them. Just call and ask if they have Singer's Saving grace. If not, ask if they have a slippery elm-type throat spray. Check out the ingredients of Chloraseptic, though, and make sure they don't try to pawn off a knock-off of that on you.
I hope that tea isn't hot, first of all.
Secondly, steam, steam, steam!

You could try the drug store, but I doubt you're going to find it there.
Really though, as Pippin said, vocal rest is your best bet. If you're not ill and this is just due to vocal fatigue you'll probably find your voice back at close to (if not entirely) full capacity by tonight if you stay on total vocal silence the rest of today.
Thank you, ladies and gents. I am going to call the drugstore right now.
Not to be mean, but why would you start a new thread if there were already BILLIONS?
My drama teacher SWEARS by this method: steep an onion in boiling water. When it is done steeping, use the onion water to make peppermint tea and add honey to taste. It's disgusting, but will work like a charm.
there's no hope. your vocal cords hate you and nothing will assuage their anger.
Kitzy-Poo . . . it's because I am a lazy ass bastard who can never find threads, no matter how hard I look for them (and yes, I use the search button).
Papa . . . I knew it would happen one day.
If you were gay DJ I could help you.
You naughty boy, you! haha.
Kitzy, my GOD. Why don't you just tell him to swing a dead cat over his head and cuss???
And Boobsy... shame on you.
hehehehe
Lol. My drama teacher is one of the best actors I've ever met; I have no end of respect for him. If he suggests something, I'm going to hold stock by it.
Although the image of DJ swinging around a cat is quite appealing...
Besty..you do know me by now right?
I've been trying for years now with DJ..hee hee
b12b just wants to see someone play with some p*ssy.
LOL!
God I love you people...
...hate...
...love...
Papa won't let you down Besty.
now then, here kitzy, kitzy, kitzy...
I knew it was only a matter of time before I got dragged into this, papa.
Papa likes to drag his women around.
can i help it if she looks good kicking and screaming?
Ok . . . I called around and no drug store has it BUT a music store has something called "Vocal Ease" all natural throat spray for singers. Anyone try this? Does it work? The reason I am asking is because I have a performance tonight, one tomorrow, two on saturday, two on Sunday, and one on Monday and there are no solo replacements.
