So James Lipton was once a pimp in France. Who would have thought meek, mild-mannered Jimmy was once a purveyor of women? Although he always did have that gleam in his eyes and that nasty little smile on his lips.
I can just imagine the interview.
"So your name is...Champale LaRue? So Champale, if you could be anything other than a hooker, what would you be? What is your favorite curse word? If there is a God, what are you going to say to Him when you get to Heaven?"
Lipton
"And then I'd take them up to the room and I had to remain there"
Ummm... ick.
And doesn't he seem proud!
The rest of that sentence is even worse:
"...I had to remain there because they were very nervous, they were young Americans for the most part... and they didn't speak French."
Double ick.
Wow, I can't imagine less of an aphrodisiac than having Mr. Lipton "watch" a performance!
I wonder... did he offer constructive criticism? Did he hold master classes? Group seminars?
Q&A's after the show?
Remember Will Ferrell's impersonation of him?
"There is only one word to describe this: splendelicious."
Monsieur Champs E-Z-Lay! I remember him!
The tea-bagging totally makes sense now.
Wasn't this mentioned in Arthur Laurents' autobiography? That Lipton would bring folks to watch live sex shows and that they were utterly depressing and awfully unsexy?
OK, ewww!!
What kind of blue cards do you prepare for something like that?

Miss Pennywise, wasn't the word "scrumtrelescent?" Unless there's an episode I'm forgetting, which is quite possible.
Dear Christ, I was just at the taping of Inside the Actors Studio Saturday night and now I'm all skeeved.
Yes, it was "scrumtrulescent." "No, no, there is no word to describe its perfection, so I'm forced to make one up, and I'm going to do so right now - scrumtrulescent."

The guy was penniless and living in France as he explained in that article. We don't know the whole story and we haven't walked in Mr. Lipton's shoes to sit here in judgement of him and criticize the choices he has made in his life. It wasn't like he went out and killed anyone or harmed anyone.
Yawper I couldn't agree more with your statement. It truly boggles the mind.
