"I think the American people just don't think there is a war on, so why should they have to go to a movie about something that doesn't exist? Their state of denial is hard to overcome," Sheridan said."
Give us a break!!!
Maybe with 10% unemployment Americans are being more choosy about their movies?
Maybe going into the Christmas season Americans don't want to see a potentially depressing movie?
Maybe Americans are tired of going to the movies for an escape and seeing what they could see for free on the nightly news?

Um, Goth, it doesn't open til Friday. So nobody is not choosing to see the film, yet.
And he's totally right about the war not being a priority (to put it kindly) in most people's minds, except for pandering moments at country and western concerts.

Posted: 11/30/09 at 10:44pmThis film was totally off my radar. Then three days ago I saw the trailer in front of PRECIOUS. I have never been so affected by a trailer before. It DEFINITELY put this film #1 on my "to-see list." I will be going to see it on Saturday.

Posted: 11/30/09 at 10:51pmThe other night Letterman had Natalie Portman and I have never, ever seen him gush about a film the way he did. He ended by saying it was the best thing he's seen in 2o years and people should just GO.

Posted: 11/30/09 at 10:57pmIt isn't even really a war movie. It's just the set up.

While I understand that people don't have these conflicts as a priority because many if not most don't agree with them, the fact is they ARE occurring. And it really does seem to effect only those who are being DIRECTLY affected (like with friends or family involved.) Most others are simply going about their business.
So far, NONE of the films that have attempted to address this issue have been embraced by the public. Not that surprising, since most don't want to think about it - unless they have to.
I still think that if a country is going to risk its military for some reason, then that reason SHOULD be important enough for ALL to sacrifice in some way. And NO, I don't think the escalating national debt signifies that. If this is necessary for some to risk their lives, then EVERYONE else should sacrifice in a way they can - it should be a national priority.
If it isn't, then we shouldn't be fighting.

Posted: 12/1/09 at 7:24pmGee, I must be in the minority on this one. I saw the trailer before Precious and thought it looked like a must miss. Plus I'm not a huge fan of Toby or Jake. I like Natalie, though. If the masses turn out to like it this much, i'll rent it.
