Several major news outlets are reporting that Paterno has died. However, the Paterno family is denying the news. Apparently he was taken to the hospital several days ago in very serious condition.

The thing is that most Penn State alumni in the last few weeks do not even acknowledge the victims or Sandusky for that matter. Instead they are just attacking the administration for unfairly firing Paterno and that Paterno was the messenger who got shot in this instance. It came with the tone, 'Forget the scandal, how dare Penn State fire him over the phone!'. They even so much as attack the new administration for not hiring the interim HC and longtime Paterno assistant Tom Bradley in favor of a guy not connected to any Penn State figures embroiled in this scandal (even though their hire is in fact a Penn State alum himself).
'JoePa RIP' or whatever became a Top Tweet and some of them were 'let's not look at the negative'. That makes me a little sick, especially when Paterno's last interview showed a man who said part of the reason for his inaction is that he had no idea there was such a thing as 'rape and a man'.
I'm not sure how a firing over the phone gives a man in his mid-80s lung cancer but the response has been exactly that theory.
