Should she have thanked American Idol on the Grammys?

she should have thanked the guy on the 40-year old Virgin for screaming her name as they ripped off his chesthair.
Yes I think she should have thanked American Idol....that got her noticed. It wouldn't have killed her

This wasn't her first album. She's not a beginner. The American Idol folks had nothing to do with the record and album that won.
Thanking American Idol would be like George Clooney thanking the producers of Facts of Life for giving him his first big break.

Posted: 2/9/06 at 10:21pmThe American Idol people almost killed her career. "I've got an idea - let's take a girl with a glorious voice, but rather chunky thighs and tush, and put her in a movie set on the BEACH!"

I think distancing herself from the show is a smart move. Doesn't she have to pay royalties to the show for the rest of her natural life or something?

It wasn't mandatory, but it would've been nice. Just like it's nice to acknowledge the other nominees.
But, the girl was out of her mind.

Posted: 2/9/06 at 10:34pmJon is right. She won AI what, 4 years ago? Get over it, people. She's her own artist.

She thanked her fans in her acceptance speech, and that's what really matters. American Idol may have been how she got her big break, but it's the fans who voted for her, bought her albums, attended her concerts, supported her through the less-than-brilliant career moves foisted on her by the AI producers, etc.
Plus, somehow I doubt that CBS would have been too happy with her if she thanked a hit show on a rival network that happened to be on at the same time as the Grammys
.

About a year ago, she got out of the management contract with the American Idol producers and now has a real manager. From what I remember, the AI producers were trying to obtain legal ownership of the trademark on her name, but I think that she was able to buy them out.
Just like it's nice to acknowledge the other nominees.
She did do that in her second acceptance speech - I don't remember everything she said, but I remember her specifically praising Gwen Stefani and Bonnie Raitt as inspirations to her.

Posted: 2/9/06 at 10:47pmI know it's the proper thing to do at award ceremonies, but I always wonder why winners have to thank so many people for their own success due to their own talent. These winners are making money for all the agents and managers they are thanking. The agents and managers ought to thank them, lol!

Even though I'm one of the crazy ones who voted for her multiple times back in 2002, I definitely think that her thanking AI or anyone related thereto was completely unnecessary. I am so glad she won; she's very talented.

I saw her in Concert in October and was completely blown away. It was amazing.
I'm glad she didn't thank them and I don't see why she should. It wasn't like it's 2003, and her album whatever it was is just coming out.
Go Kelly, you hot Texan, you!

Posted: 2/10/06 at 6:26pmI'm of the opinion that Kelly Clarkson is so fiercely talented that she would have made it without American Idol. Not as quickly, but every bit as hugely.

Her album is entitled BREAKAWAY for literal and figurative reasons.
Little-known fact: Another title that Kelly considered for the album was "Hear Me." I used to wish that she had gone with that title, but I've grown to appreciate "Breakaway" as a title, because in the past year she really has broken away from a lot of the preconceived notions about her that stemmed from AI.

I saw her at the Aladdin, in Vegas. I lied.. It was in December. The tickets say October, but rescheduled for December.
I WISH I could've seen her at MSG.
Someone in the front row had a sign (I didn't see it) that said something like "BE IN A MOVIE WITH ME!" or something, and she was like "What? Have you seen my movie? I'm an awful actress. Watch it when you're drunk, like I do. Then it's okay." It made me laugh.

Posted: 2/10/06 at 6:50pmYou went to the Vegas concert? I am so jealous - I wish I could have gone (it was originally scheduled for September, but had to be postponed because Kelly had bronchitis that turned into walking pneumonia, forcing her to reschedule a handful of tour dates on the West Coast. Everyone who was at the last show she did in Berkeley in September, where she had to modify the setlist because she was sick, got free tickets to another concert she did in San Jose in December.)
