I am heading to NYC with 2 friends (one male, one female) arriving November 6 and leaving November 9. We were going ot stay with a friend but that just fell through, so we are looking for something (less than a 45 minute subway ride from midtown preferably) inexpensive (under $150 a night) to stay - hotel, motel, b&B, hostel - anything at this point as this date fast approaches.

We're looking as much as we can but I thought there were probably great recommendations people on these boards could give me a heads up on that I might not find otherwise.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any help on this! :)

I'm sure a hostel would be your best bet but I don't have any personal recommendations. Have you checked on Hotels.com? You can read the reviews of the people who have stayed there.

Good luck with your search. Finding affordable, clean and safe places to stay in NY is becoming almost impossible!

Of course the further outside the city you go, the cheaper they are. Airport hotels are always low. And don't forget about Priceline. Good advice is to find something that 'will do' and make your reservations. Then around the first of the month, try Priceline for your lower rate. You'd be surprised how many times they come up with something at the last minute. (If they do, you can then cancel your other reservations.)

When I used to have to bring my kids to the Newark Airport, I'd stay near there or the train station and take the PATH train into the city. I could usually get a very reasonable rate at the Hilton, Marriott, etc.

It's been years but it might be worth a shot.
