Lost some of my upper notes
#0Lost some of my upper notes
Posted: 8/16/06 at 6:21pmI just got over a case of laryngitis and I notice that I'm lost my upper-upper notes (A-C two octaves above middle C). I need that A back by September for an audition. Can anyone help me?

Posted: 8/16/06 at 8:38pmI often switched things around. I know a few people that this has happend to. MOST of those people have gottent their range back quickly with proper training. But there is a slight chance that you may now be an Alto. Has the tone of your voice changed any?

Posted: 8/16/06 at 8:46pmNope. The tone hasn't changed. Ugh, I need that note in 3 weeks! It's really screechy now, but there. I need it to not be screechy.

"I NEED HELP"
You should get that printed on a T-shirt. :)
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia

This happened to me a couple years ago, with careful training I eventually got the notes back.
Just do some light vocalizations. Ahhs, oos, ohhs, laas. Just be careful! You have a wonderful voice i'd hate anything to happen to it.

Posted: 8/16/06 at 8:59pmAw, thanks SarahBeth. I'll be careful. I hate laryngitis. I really hope I acn at least get that A back.

Posted: 8/16/06 at 10:42pmThe A is definitely screechy, but it's almost back. However, I won't really be able to practice too much for a week because I'm going away and I'll be staying in a hotel. Gah!

Something similar happened to me last year (although I'm a male, so in no way am I gonna get your range).
I've been going back and forth for a couple of years now between tenor and baritone, I'm pretty much on the edge. I'm 16, and that show how as a young singer, our voices are very vunerable.
Back in September '05, after an entire summer of rigorous training, I became sick for three months with a head cold that sometimes became a chest cold. Lots of vocal rest was had on my part, but when I finally came out, a lot of what I'd worked on was gone. I worked with my teacher for months to get back everything (but we're still working on fixing my falsetto crossover).
From what you've wrritten, I assume that your situation is not as drastic. But in order for it not to be, I storngly encourage you to follow the above advise given to you by other members. Lightly vocalize, and if it doesn't work in time, don't push yourself at the audition.

Work up to these notes nice and lightly, but make sure you're supporting them with good breath...don't put any extra stress on your chords. Do a little vocalizing each day.
Also..how soon is "just got over" the laryngitis? Don't push it. Chances are you will get them back in time for the audition. If you are truly a soprano, I wouldn't worry too much.
