Hey everyone, I just wanted to know if anyone has any suggegestions about my problem. I am a guy, i'm 16 and my range is just.. horrible.

I can usually on a good day sing a low A, but I can only sing up to an F, so I really only have an octive and a half of range to deal with should I use my falsetto voice for songs?? Because I can mostly only sing a select few audition songs that are guys, but i can easily sing womens songs an octive lower. so... what the question is, should guys use their falsetto voice for songs? and does it count in their overall range?? I mean, I NEVER like to use my falsetto voice It just sounds... nasty.

Thanks ahead of time!

You shouldn't worry about your range right now, but rather improving the tone of your voice. Range gives you versatility while the tone of your voice gives you your job. You could have a 5-octave range, but if your voice is horrible, no one's gonna want you.

Aigoo is correct as always re: Male range problems.. Plus, your 16!! Thats so young, as a male who can relate- when I was that age- it was tough. I know someone can correct me on this- but the male voice isn't full developed until your late 20's? So you have soooo much time- keep studying and taking lessons- I would not advice trying to expand one's range without a teacher who knows what he or she is doing. But keep studying and stay patient.

I have your same problem. My entire range spans about 3 octaves if I use my head voice, but when we're talking about decently hitting anything above a middle E flat, I can't do it. And it's extremely frustrating. But I'm young like you, so people just keep telling me that my voice and range will mature as I get older. So I'm working on tone, breathing, strong head voice etc. Work with what you got. But I completely understand what you're talking about.

Hey,

I just responded to a similar problem on the topic 'Can voice lessons help expand your chest voice??' which should help address your problem.

:)
