As the campaign comes to an end and Obama pulls further and further ahead, it's only going to get worse.
McCain is not only losing the election, he is also losing his respectability and his "good" name. He really has turned into an angry, pathetic, old man.

Posted: 10/9/08 at 9:16amIn an interview with Charlie Gibson, Obama made reference to the fact that McCain is running these ads, but didn't say anything to his face at Tuesday's debate.

Posted: 10/9/08 at 12:04pmWhat's so horrible about the ad? Is Obama claiming he didn't have an association with Ayers? If so, then that's a lie. If the claim is, associations don't matter, then why has Obama's campaign, since day-one, been all about associating McCain to Bush?

Uh there is a HUGE difference. Obama didn't back Ayers policies 90% of the time.
It's fine to make associations with these people but make a distinction about the association.
What's next? Wright and Rezco. We've seen it all BEFORE.

And stop me if I'm mistaken but McCain is the one that ran on a "clean campaign" agenda back in the late Spring. It was supposed to be different for him. McCain is running 100% negative campaigns right now. That tells me two things. He has nothing to tell us about his platform (must be like Bush's)AND he is losing so bad he has to use tired Clinton guilt-by-associations smears.
He can keep it up for all I care. As long as he's not pushing wedge issues we are in a good place.

Posted: 10/9/08 at 12:14pmThey're not "associating" McCain with Bush. Everyone in Washington "associates" with Bush. What the Obama campaign has done is show that McCain believes, acts and votes like Bush in respect to the negative things Bush has done. On the other hand, Obama does not believe, act or vote like Ayers did when Ayers did negative things. He just knows him and associates with him the way everyone in Washington associates with Bush. BIG difference.

arts - why do you even bother? you are wasting your time with JB2.
Don't concern yourself with outspoken McCain supporters like JB2... you should be concerned over certain people on these boards who claim to be Obama supporters publicly, but behind closed doors, its a very different story...

All I have to say is that Obama and his campaign are doing an incredible job avoiding all this and advancing day by day.
John McCain and Sarah Palin's priests are NEVER mentioned by Obama. We can certainly link the two to horrible people. Not to mention John McCain's ties with the Saudi's who support terrorism in Israel.
Hillary Clinton tried the same nonsense and Obama did not go after her for it. Her husband accepted a $10 million dollar donation from the Saudi monarch. If that had been Obama he would have never gotten past Iowa. Obama's wife was lambasted a few weeks ago for missing a 9/11 memeorial when she decided instead to take her girls to school.
What amazes me most is he stays above this fray and just keeps advancing.

Posted: 10/9/08 at 12:31pmWell, you can all say there's a big difference, but there isn't. Obama's associations will plague his presidency for the next 4 years. Guaranteed. This man that people are orgasming to cast their vote for, has been inspired by a hate-mongering religious whack-o, wrote a forward for a book by a domestic terrorist, worked-for and supported, both legislatively and financially, ACORN, which is under investigation in about a dozen states. Seriously, people? I'm not saying this means anyone should vote for John McCain, but I have to wonder about people who just don't seem to care about this stuff, and aren't demanding answers. "I was 8 when he did his bombings", isn't an answer. It boggles my mind. You're all going to elect a man who will spend his entire presidency defending himself, and doing absolutely nothing else.

He says that for CONTEXT. Most people don't know who this is and generalization that are made need to be cleared up.
"Obama's associations will plague his presidency for the next 4 years. "
How? Duh we totally expect whatever remains of the Republican party to muckrake but I got news for you people in this country JUST DON'T CARE!
Do you understand George Bush Sr. was with Osama bin Laden's BROTHER the day before 9/11 and George Bush won a re-election?
What amazes me on this board is all of you so-called experts have been wrong about Obama all along. Every single step of the way. Save for some outrageous October surprise (bin Laden capture) I don't know how you will kill this momentum. But wrong you are and I'm happy for it.
Obama will have a hellish presidency and he will probably walk away with the scars, but it has nothing to do with his affiliations. Obama will spend the next four years trying to unfu@k this mess in every aspect of our infrastructure.

In case anyone is curious- CNN has done an excellent job of detailing exactly how close this 'Association" was. I am amused that Obama and Ayers are "Palling around" but McCain can't come up with a single photo of the two of them together. Such close pals!

JB2, can you not see the difference between not caring from apathy and not caring because, upon investigation, it's been proven to be a non-issue for most Americans?

Posted: 10/9/08 at 2:28pmI wish Ayers would just go on tv and set the record straight! Why is no one interviewing him? In all the McCain raliies, the people there are begging McCain to attack Obama more. Of course, Fox says the issue is important to the people. No- it's only important to the almost 100% Republican audience attending these rallies. That's why McCain likes the town hall settings- because the populace is one-sided. He didn't get that at the debates and that's why he was so mad! At least in the Keating trial, McCain was hand-slapped pretty hard for his poor judgement. I don't think anyone in the senate has publicly admonished Obama like that! To take a line from Chicago- "Ladies and Gentlemen, Senator John McCain in an act of desperation". Just sayin'

Ayers talked to the press in 2001 and had just about every word he said twisted and distorted in the days after 9/11. He doesn't respond any more. He's lived a very quiet life in Chicago the last couple of decades and then suddenly was the focus of death threats and harassment again.
Besides which, what could he say?

I just don't understand how their early "work" together amounts to anything remotely devious. I'm not sure if you have been to the inner-city lately but we have to work with a lot of people from a lot of different backgrounds. Many of them criminal.
Sarah Palin's own son is a criminal and her husband is a secessionist. John McCain has seen his friends go to jail and as recently as last spring conducted ILLEGAL campaign malfeasance.
John McCain's problem unlike Hillary Clinton's is not just a crappy campaign it's his inability to keep his word. One minute he sets the bar really high for the presidency, a really great argument against Obama, then what does he do? He picks Sarah Palin negating the only card he had. THEN he says "I will not run a negative campaign" only to run an entirely negative campaign. He changes just like that on issues and on his personal relationships.
A lot of people like this man, and I just can't see how anyone who calls him friend would let him suffer through all this.
