Wowza is right!
I find that incredibly romantic. I only wish I had that kind of money to spring on my "honey."
*sigh*
EDIT: What the hell is "rhodium?" Black gold, they say. Never heard of it.
Probably because it's so far out of my league.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out where I knew the black gold reference.

It's a beautiful ring. But, unfortunately for Michelle, It's untrue and just another attempt to paint the Obamas as elitists.
Thanks, but no thanks, for the bling.

I'm glad to see the story isn't true, on two accounts:
Bad idea to announce such a splurge on the very day that the US is officially in a recession
Previous first ladies have been skewered for not using/buying USA made products.
That particular ring looks about as comfortable to wear as those diamond eternity rings so popular a few years back.

Sorry, but I believe she's getting the ring no matter what they say. They may have tried to keep it private and it was leaked and now they are trying to hush it up. It's a beautiful ring and if they can afford it, they should buy it.

The Obamas are denying it, and the jeweler's spokesman released the following statement:
I regret to inform you that because of reports so wrong and clearly different from the reality of our statements, we decided to not issue statement on this matter.
Unfortunately, we were negatively affected by read on national and foreign media news stories that have no basement[sic], and in excess of the objective reality.
I inform you that we have no intention to disseminate more information about this story.
So... ignoring the fact that part of that isn't actually coherent English, I'd still say she's getting SOMETHING from the jeweler, whether or not it's an African-American gold ring.

No. The jeweler is a d-list shop that tried for some publicity and the international press bit. I think Gawker puts it best

I tend to believe the ring story but can understand why they want to keep it low key. Recession or no recession it's still a free country and if you've got the money you should spend it any way you want, sorry if that sounds elitist. I don't think the look of the ring warrants the price tag. Why not a nice size rock instead of the pricey metal. A four or five carat diamond would be just the ticket.
Obama also needs to remember his mother-in-law with some type of gift. She has been taking care of his daughters all through the campaign. I know that's what grandmothers love to do but they need to be thanked once in a while.

"tend to believe"?
Even though is obviously a lie?
I am trying to remember the comic who said,
"That's ALL we need, a black man, in the White House asking for change."

I'd rather have a puppy myself... maybe if someone bought me such a ring, I could trade it in for one...

Sorry Diva, I haven't done my research. What if there is some truth to it? Lot's of women have beautiful diamond rings. It's no big deal. If you say it's an obvious lie, fine.

You believe anything you want.
I don't care.
