You may already have heard what's happening in California: A number of extreme, anti-GLBT groups have proposed three different constitutional amendment ballot measures to repeal existing rights, benefits and responsibilities for legally recognized domestic partners and permanently ban marriage protections for same-sex couples.

Yesterday, the state Attorney General's office gave the go-ahead for collecting signatures to put one of the three initiatives on the ballot in 2006, and the other two are expected to be approved shortly. This is a serious development, and the Human Rights Campaign is working with the Equality For All coalition to defeat any or all of these discriminatory amendments.

Equality For All includes incredible leaders from Equality California, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, the San Diego LGBT Community Center, the ACLU, Bienestar, National Center for Lesbian Rights, Lambda Legal, Log Cabin Republicans, Stonewall Democrats, the Black AIDS Institute and PFLAG, to name a few. HRC and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force have kicked off the fundraising effort for this campaign with a $200,000 matching grant. We will match $1 for every $4 the campaign can raise between now and Labor Day. Please help - simply click here:

As Vice President for HRC's Marriage Project, I have been working daily on the campaign for months to help identify campaign talent, develop effective message strategies and help set up a field and fundraising plan. Before even one signature has been collected by the other side, HRC has been involved from the ground floor to help build a solid campaign foundation to defeat these measures. But we need your help to stop the anti-gay crusaders who are once again attacking us in California.

The campaign website is currently being built, but we can receive contributions and volunteers now. Please visit www.equalityforallca.org to find out more and make a donation now, before the extremists collect even one signature.

Thank you so much for your efforts today and every day.

Sincerely,

Seth Kilbourn
Vice President, HRC Marriage Project

Don't these people have better things to do?

No they don't. We homosexuals are a priority on their "things to fix" list. And some of us help their cause with our unconstitutional stance on important issues like the right to privacy.

So let's stop trying to be "a credit to our race" and let's demand true equality. Civil equality. Updated On: 7/26/05 at 11:05 PM
