"WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 — Iraq had essentially destroyed its illicit weapons capability within months after the Persian Gulf War ended in 1991, and its capacity to produce such weapons had eroded even further by the time of the American invasion in 2003, the top American inspector in Iraq said in a report made public today."

Why is this such a surprise?

Bush lies.
Cheney lies.
This administration lies.
So much for bringing honesty and integrity back to the white house.

I'll tell you why I'm surprised. Though I've never felt we needed to go to war with Iraq, I did believe somewhere deep inside me that this man must have been doing SOMETHING these last few years in terms of accumulating weapons of mass destruction. Even so much as writing a memo.

But what is so most shocking is that the one body we are told is completely ineffective (the UN and its sanctions) was the one thing that truly worked in keeping Sadaam from becoming a WMD thread to the world. The sanctions worked. Desert Storm worked.

Something truly frightening was Tucker Carlson saying that we were better off with Sadaam in power. Because he was much easier to deal with than the chaos we have created for ourselves.

We have been lied to. I've known it all along. But to see it so plainly is horrifying.
