I have to read this book for English and I was wondering if anyone else has read it. It's by Willa Cather... not my favorite book by any means but not bad.

Am I cut out to spend my time this way?

I remember reading it in highschool - and I HATED it - second only to Pride and Prejudice. Now, I don't always subscribe to the art forms as being gender specific (I'm a straight man who is hugely interested in musical theater after all), but neither of those books should ever be force-fed to ANY teenage boy under any circumstances ever!

The cable movie is pretty good.

I also must say that I hated this book, and this is coming from someone who liked almost all of the assigned reading in high school. I just found it to be dreadfully boring and didn't feel emotionally connected to any of the characters.

High school reading is boring by proxy...unless you have a great teacher. Return to Cather as you get a little older...you'll dig it.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I absolutely HATED this book. We read it in 10th grade and I remember that we had to analyze a scene with a plow. Way too much symbolism. Good luck getting through it!
