Janet Leigh and Jack Lemmon got billed above Betty Garrett?

I remember seeing this movie when I was in grade school. On Wednesdays the nuns used to charge us 25 cents apiece to see a film (and so they could see a movie without leaving the confines of the school!). Anyhow, one week the film was this version of MY SISTER EILEEN. All I really recall is Janet Leigh leading a conga line through the streets.

Best reason to buy this DVD (or at least watch the movie): the dance duet between a very young Bob Fosse and a very young and still sexy Kurt Kasznar.

PJ, I agree that the duet you mentioned is fantastic -- perhaps some of the best male dancing I've ever seen on the screen -- but Fosse's partner is the georgous, immensely talented and very under-rated Tommy Rall. A former American Ballet Theater dancer, Broadway soloist and played Bill Calhoun in the film version of Kiss Me Kate, featured in Gene Kelly's Invitation To The Dance and is Frank in 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. He is one of my favorites and I'm glad that this film is finally on dvd.

The "Give Me Some Ragtime" number (I don't know the actual name of the song) with Leigh, Garrett, Fosse and Rall is a charmer as well.

*edit* ...and PJ,yes, Be. Still. My. Heart

I stand corrected, AndyHardy. I will make a shrine to Tommy Rall and worship at it.

I saw Tommy Rall in MILK AND HONEY, and was awe-struck by his stage presence and talent.

How does the story compare to 'Wonderful Town'?

Tommy Rall. I remeber him from his ABT days. A wonderful, charismatic and really lovely gentleman. Does anyone know where he is these days?

He works in the trust department? Oh! I thought he might be teaching dance in a university. I hope he's happy. I really adored him.

Yes, I'd love to hear a Tommy Rall story!!!!!!!!!!

I read a lengthy interview that Rall gave a few years ago and he mentioned that he is enjoying singing at this stage in his life.

Talent talent talent.

Tommy partnered Barbra in "The Swan" number in FUNNY GIRL.
I don't think he got billing.

I remember seeing this on the big screen at the Regency theatre many years ago. There is one scene where Janet is wearing the biggest and pointiest 'Torpedo tits' bra ever seen on film.

It was impossible to keep a straight face.

But then again, there wasn't much straight about that audience :)

More Tommy Rall! More! MORE!

Edit: A non-BWW friend reminds me that Tommy was also in the cast of Jerome Robbins's Look Ma I'm Dancing and on the OCR of Milk and Honey singing the gorgeous Jerry Herman ballad "I Will Follow You."

Tommy Rall was in Look Ma, I'm Dancin", as well as Juno and Milk and Honey. I really have no stories to offer, other than he was a wonderful dancer and stage presence. I hope he is happy!
