"TRENTON — In a split decision, the New Jersey Supreme Court has declined to hear a case from six same-sex couples seeking the right to marry, saying the case needs to wind its way through the lower courts first."
From NJ.com
It needs time because Chris Christie has said he will, "veto any such bill" that crosses his desk. Maybe they just want to let it work through the lower courts so it stands a chance to out last his upcoming coronary explosion.
To me, it seems that the last paragraph of the article summed it up:
"The decision was split not along ideological lines, but among those who have and have not been granted tenure. The three justices who have to be reconfirmed voted to deny the motion, while the three who have received lifetime tenure until the age of 70 dissented."
Gov Christie has made it clear that he will try to leverage the judiciary as an auxiliary wing of the executive branch.
JerseyGirl...if the supreme court rules that it's unconstitutional it's out of Christie's hands. There would be no bill to veto.
At least that's the way I think it would work.
I meant, more specifically, after having made a statement like that, he would do whatever he could to fight it. He could make lives hell for those who support it. Oh well.
I went to the hospital today and in all my paperwork, it has my fiancée listed as my sambo(living together as married, but not). She's my next of kin and the person who can make all my decisions if I am unable. We're applying to be foster parents and plan on marrying in the fall. We got a little house on a farm near a little town where I can bike to school. I can understand why all these people would want to make sure crazies like us never get legal in the US. It's so DIFFERENT.
Congrats on everything, JG2!
