#0NY Doorman strike??

Hi all. Never expected to be posting about *this* or any related topics, but I have a question. This news just came over my wire at work:
>>The strike would be felt by one-million New Yorkers in high rises across the city. Many of them used to having their trash hauled, suitcases carried, and food delivered. They may have to do it themselves if doormen walk.
This spurred a funny argument between myself and a co-worker: "Doormen take out trash?" I said. "When did that ever happen?" He responded that he's talking about regular apartment buildings, not hotels, where I insisted doormen clearly dress in suits or uniform. I told him here in Chicago, even private residential buildings with doormen have such people dress nice, and he maintained that "in New York maybe it's more casual" because of my question about 'taking out the trash.' Sounds crazy to me that a doorman type would have this under their job description, and that they would be dressed casually.
Since we don't live there, can anyone shed some light? Not for nothing but I hope my co-worker is incorrect about this!
Thanks. :)

Posted: 4/20/06 at 5:15pmI once saw a doorman lead Miss Paris Hilton to a limo. Is that what you mean by taking out the trash?

Posted: 4/20/06 at 5:19pmIt's all union 32B workers. People who take out the trash are called porters. It's all building employees who are in the union. Doormen, Concierge, Porters, Handymen etc.

OK, this is sort of unrelated, but I didn't want to start a new thread.
Does anyone here have crushes on their doormen?

Posted: 4/8/07 at 9:55pmOh no! You mean that people will actually have to take out their own trash, get their own food, and open their own door? Say it ain't so! What are these people going to do? Oh yeah . . . do the same damn thing that I, and millions of others do.

Why, Foster--do you have a thing for doormen?
There are indeed some awfully cute doormen in this city. Especially the other kind--the Bway kind.

Do you honestly not know? I got the impression you were in NYC.
In an apt building, a doorman guards the entrance, handles deliveries and guests. On Bway, the stagedoor has one.

Let's just say my building wouldn't know a doorman from a doormouse.
And wouldn't have a place for them to sit!

Look for the union label
When you are buying a coat, dress or blouse
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia

Posted: 4/9/07 at 12:48amI do have a thing for doormen. I have this new doorman in my building, and he is absolutely stunning. He could be a model. And he wears his uniform so well, and he's so polite. I just want to bite him!

nom, my building might not know what a doorman is, but it certainly knows what a dormouse is!
Meanwhile, I'm going to use this as a chance to start that Upper East Side burglary ring I've always talked about.

Hot Dominican men -- door or otherwise -- are a dime a dozen in the heights.

Beat me to it, Calvin.
And you don't even have to pay doorman-building prices!
