I will be visiting New York City this week. I'm seeing Next To Normal and West Side Story (can't wait to see both).
When walking around the city, I usually take in the Times Square area including 8th Ave over to 5th Ave. Is there anything worthwhile over on 9th Ave. that I should consider taking a walk over there too?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I would recommend walking over to the Little Pie Company on 43rd St. between 9th and 10th. Try a piece of the sour cream walnut apple pie. It's scrumptious, and well worth the walk there.
Enjoy your trip.

Posted: 8/31/09 at 11:05amI second The Little Pie Company. 9th Ave. seems nice after you pass Port Authority going north. Below that, there doesn't seem to be much. At least I thought so between 33rd and 43rd.

My favorites on 9th:
5 Napkin Burger (Corner of 45th)
Turkish Cuisine (B/t 44th and 45th)
Pietrasanta (Corner of 47th)

Pretty sure it closed. I was definitely kicking myself for never going there.

I smell those pies at Little Pie Company baking from my window (I live right across the street) and they taste even better than they smell surprisingly. I second the sour cream apple pie. You'll die and go to heaven.
I always recommend for people to have dinner on 9th if they're seeing a show. You're away from the tourists and in a real neighborhood with cheaper and BETTER food and a hundred selections that you can't go wrong with.

Did Burgers & Cupcakes really close?? I LOVED that place!
Do you like frozen yogurt?? On 42nd and 9th there is a frozen yogurt placed called Pinkberry. It is a chain throughout the city. I am obsessed...I go every time I am in the city.

Gotta throw in my vote for the little pie company. Everything they make is delicious, although the sour cream apple crumb is their most popular (and the one I always get).
They closed the one on 14th st. I miss it because if you need to bring a dessert to someone's dinner party, that's the place to go!

Posted: 8/31/09 at 2:57pmI wasn't all that impressed with Magnolia when I visited it. I did go to the one by Radio City Music Hall. For the price and the size of the cupcake, I'll take the ones from the Little Pie Company anyday.

Yes, the Little Pie Company is kind of expensive. But if you're going to buy just a slice of sour cream apple pie, it's worth trying at least once.
I can't say I care much for the cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery. But their banana pudding is excellent.
For the best cupcakes in NY, I would recommend Billy's on 9th Avenue and 21st, I believe.

But Billy is from Magnolia.
I agree, their banana pudding is fabulous. That's the only thing I buy from there now.
