I just got back from my local protest here in Greensboro, NC. I dropped my plans for the day to attend and managed to get 14 other people to come with me in less than 24 hours.
There were about 200-250 of us here, I would estimate. We stood in front of a municipal building in the downtown area, held our signs high, and chanted. Most cars that drove by (75%) would honk, give thumbs up, show peace signs, and just smile. Others would drive by and not have any clue why we were protesting (20%). Only 5% of cars would respond negatively, either by giving us a thumbs down, giving the bird, or showing disgust in their faces.
It was supposed to rain all afternoon, but the sun shined through the day without so much as a drop. God held off his rainclouds for us. :)
Several local newstrucks and newspapers came. I called two local newstations this morning before I went to a sign-making party I was hosting. Neither one of the stations were aware of the protest before I called. Both showed up this afternoon. :)
Despite the positive energy and nice turnout, I must say that I am disappointed the numbers weren't larger. I had several friends who said they were going but never showed up. Shame.
Here in Louisville, KY 200 plus people showed up and it is cold and rainy here. I could not go because I have a class on Saturday, but my BFF went to represent us and he said it was great, with lots of support form passing cars. It was covered by the local news.
Here in Boston. It was estimated that there were about 5,000 people who showed up considering its RAINING! Students from Harvard, MIT, Emerson, BU, Taft, Northeast, Parents with their kids, Grandparents with their grandkids, members of MASSEQUALITY (incl. myself & chris) GLAD, LGBT communities and also anti-protestors (see my photos)
We were there from 12:45 till 4:15. I voluntered to JOIN THE IMPACT Boston Chapter~ thru facebook to hand outs info about future protests (that's why I barely have no photos! The rally was very successful and peaceful! There were a lot of speakers..mostly politicians (democrats who support us)
We used same tactics we used at MASSEQUALITY~which is we contact the local media to raise public awareness of the protest!
and btw- IT DOES NOT STOP HERE... We will still continue here in MAS>> till every single Gay & Lesbian & Transgender have EQUAL rights in this country. ALL 50 STATES!!!

Great day in Seattle. The crowd started to gather in Volunteer Park (in the "gay"borhood) at 10:30, speakers began at noon, the march towards downtown started at 1, and then there was a really downtown until 3. The best part for me was seeing so much support from straight families that showed up with their kids. Reposting some pix I put on the other thread:
Crowd gathering at Volunteer Park
Front of the march coming down Broadway
Looking down Pike Street towards downtown, we were about half-way within the crowd
Lots of support along the way
The rally downtown
Next, we are marching in Olympia (state capital) on March 10.
