Posted: 12/19/04 at 4:41pmHow many Iraqi children lost a parent to the rape rooms and killing fields? How many children lost their own lives because of Sadam Hussein?

How many other tyrants and genocidal regimes are we allowing to go on doing as bad as or worse than Saddam Hussein did?
Was a war necessary to accomplish what we have accomplished?
What HAVE we accomplished?

Posted: 12/19/04 at 4:57pmwhile 900 children without parents is tragic, it's a pittance in the cruel arithmetic of war. consider the somme in wwi: 20,000 brits killed on the first day of battle. consider the battle of the bulge in wwii: 19,000 americans killed in 40 days. and there's d-day with it's conservative estimates of around 8,500 allied dead in one day (with roughly 2,700 of them american). war means fighting and fighting means killing.

papa-This is supposed to be new-age computerized war.
For a computerized war a lot of real lives are being lost.

Posted: 12/19/04 at 5:03pmanybody who can say war and expect there to be no dying is lying. advances in technology allow it to be less bloody than it might have been, but in case ya didn't read the last line i'll say it again for the cheap seats, war means fighting and fighting means killing.

papa-I am not saying death is inevitable...of course it is not.
However President Bush said that we were going to war because of WMD's NOT TO LIBERATE A COUNTRY.
He lied to make his father proud of him, and killed tens of thousands while doing it.
That said-The world is better without Saddam but we should have gone about it with the WORLD'S approval and help.

Posted: 12/19/04 at 5:16pmwith the help of the world, huh? you mean like the un whose ministers were busy lining their pockets with oil for food kickbacks that helped to continue to starve the iraqi people while letting saddam build palaces and pay off suicide bomber's families? or with the help of the russians, germans and french who were already counting the dollar signs that a revoking of sanctions would mean to them even while breaking their trust doing illicit business with hussein? he lied to make his father proud? and you know this how? are you privy to conversations or comments that have yet to be made public?

Papa-Fmr. President Bush HATED Saddam Husein...this is a known fact.
Current President Bush had already made plans with his cabinet to attack Iraq before September 11th. September 11th gave him a :logical reason" to hunt down the man who tried to kill his father.
Regarding oil-Yes the U.N does have some oil tycoons in it...but so does this administration-The President, Vice President and soon-to-be Secretary of State all helped run oil companies. Ms. Rice even had an oil liner named after her(The name was changed because they feared if terrorists attacked it, it would be more trouble for the administration.
I respect your views Papa but I am entitled to my own.

Posted: 12/19/04 at 6:11pmHave more American died in the war on Iraq than in the 9/11 attacks? I'm sure it's fewer, but it's climbing, fast. It makes me wonder who the real terrorist against the American people is.

as of 12/17/2004:
1300 total american dead. 1021 kia and 279 non-hostile.
average of roughly 2 deaths a day since 3/20/2003.
9/11/2001:
2996
killed in one day.
so at this rate we should eclipse 9/11 in early 2007.

and how many of those were in fact civilians, jacob, and how many were actually members of the saddam fedayeen or abu's band of merry marauders?
blue referred to the number of people killed on 9/11 and likened those responsible for american involvement in iraq to terrorists against the american people. hence i am completely content to use american deaths to point out the inherent stupidity of that comment.
civilian casualties even at the 17,000 (which wworks to roughly 10,000 a year) mark are below average for a year during saddam's reign.

Posted: 12/19/04 at 7:12pmWarmongers and terrorists will always find a way to justify and rationalize the number of deaths and the amount of killing that occurs in the name of their cause. Whether it be Hitler, Saddam, Bin Laden, or Bush. THEIR cause is always the most noblest, and the one worth sacrificing people's lives for. Just not their own.

"and how many of those were in fact civilians, jacob, and how many were actually members of the saddam fedayeen or abu's band of merry marauders?"
Papa-While I understand what you are saying a death is a death and must be counted in a TOTAL NUMBER of deaths.
