New York or Bust!

Okay guys,
So I am considering taking a day off of work and therefore being able to be in New York and other cities between March 14-March 27. Sounds good, right? Unfortunately, my parents are going to Sedona (Arizona?), at that time, and request that I do not leave, for we have a dog and bird. I think they should have someone dog-sit (it's been done before), and I personally don't give a twit what happens to the bird.
However, they don't get it. So this is a petition to get Shira's butt to NYC. Will everyone sign? This will be presented to my parents soon enough. Please "sign" and include your location. Thanks!

Posted: 2/27/05 at 3:30amShira must definitely be in NYC the weekend of the 27th! Some other of us west coasters will be there starting the 25th. In fact, she should take a couple more days off from work so that she can join us at Birdland on the 28th for Max von Essen's concert. I'm SURE the dog and bird would just love to visit a lovely pet resort and spa that week...wouldn't they???

You stay where you are... I, for one, give a twit about that poor little bird you would let starve for a weekend in NYC.

No petition signing for me.
How much do parents ask of us? And how old are we? (Rhetorical - don't want to know but believe it was mentioned in another thread that it was under 18.)
I can't help think that it goes beyond the bird and dog feedings. Probably more like they don't want to worry about you being gone somewhere while they're also out of town.
Honor thy mother and thy father. They aren't with us forever.

OK, shira, if the bird is REALLY taken care of, you have my permission too.

etoile, I'm over 18. However, I am taking a year off of college (I attended NYU last year). Because my parents requested I take the year off, I requested I be allowed to visit NYC twice in the school year. I got 36 hours in the city in December, and this would be number 2. My parents are not worried about my being on my own in the big bad city. I did it last year, and I've done it in other countries as well. The only issue is the dog/bird sitting, and that's been done before as well.
I want to go so that I will be on the east coast on March 20, and therefore not be missing a day of work. Makes sense, I believe. This plan gives me enough time to visit Southbury, CT, Boston, MA, NYC, and Philadelphia, PA. The other weekends are booked with work, work, photography, Passover...and then it's summer already.
I could certainly make my flight arrangements without my parents permission, as I have miles, and other expenses would be mine, not being dependent on my parents for these matters. However, I ask their permission because 1) It's the right thing to do, and b) I want the dog and bird to be taken care of.
I'm rather thorough, so I don't see why people wouldn't want me in New York. For goodness sake, all I'm asking is for a raise of hand. Hell, sign a fake name.
