"Campbell Soup Co., the Camden, N.J., food giant, has been fighting a grass-roots boycott of its products after its Canadian subsidiary rolled out a line of soups certified as halal, meaning they're prepared according to Islamic dietary laws....
The Facebook page simply urges consumers to "Boycott Campbell Soup for their certification of their products as halal and supporting the Muslim Brotherhood."
Since its introduction on Oct. 5, the page has attracted nearly 3,500 "friends," many of whom have posted anti-Muslim comments and articles unrelated to the boycott. The postings range from aggressive to hostile. "No to Campbell," reads one of the tamer comments. "They cater to Muslims."
They have some BS explanation
This must be the reason their Chicken Noodle Soup smells and tastes funny. Only logical explanation.

I don't understand this logic.
I mean everyone knows Campbell's Soup isn't mentioned in the Bible, so I could understand a boycott on those grounds, but this viewpoint is just misguided.
I always knew those little Nazi soup children were up to no good.
Halal is a big controversy in Europe, too. Many places are serving Halal meat without informing customers. Cattle are normally stunned before being killed, making it slightly more humane than Halal preparations which calls for the animal's throat to be cut and for it's blood to drain. I don't eat meat, but when I did, I didn't really have a lot of concern over how humane the killing was. Now that I am more informed, I am grossed out by all of it.
I just wonder if these boycotters would also avoid any company that served food labeled as kosher?

I am stunned to hear places serve Halal meat without trumpeting the fact- much like Kosher Meat it is both more expensive and perceived as higher quality. There's really no advantage for the restaurant to serve Halal unless their customers request it.
I believe there has been similar faux hysteria about breakfast cereals being halal.
Here's the info on Campbell's Canadian website on Halal-certified products. They say "Campbell proudly offers Halal certified products."

Meanwhile, as others have said, some supermarkets and fast food chains in the UK are being criticized for selling Halal meat without labeling it as such.

It's a lose-lose situation. Label a product Halal and people complain. Don't label it Halal and people complain. Some people are never happy.

What would Andy Warhol say?
(Trick question! He wouldn't say anything and then he'd take a Polaroid.)
This is why I hate people. Chances are, since most of Campbell's food is already kosher, many of thier products were ALREADY Halal "appropriate", but perhaps never sought out the accreditation previously. (The dietary laws are freakishly similar.)
I feel like heating up a can of good old fashioned tomato soup just to spite stupidity. (Which, btw the Flying Karamzov Bros used in their juggling challenge on Saturday. Opened. It was messy.)

And then he'd silk screen it.

Diva, he'd have one of his acolytes take a Polaroid and silk screen it. Please.
I actually read that it's cheaper to produce halal meat because factories can employ Muslim refugees who work for very little or whose salaries are subsidized by the government depending on where they live. In my area, we have a TON of Somalian refugees. The government gives them a place to live and money each month. In exchange, the refugees attend mandatory basic Swedish for Immigrants courses and do praktik, which is an internship at some business within the community. Most people get jobs at the furniture factory even though there is a huge meat factory in town because they don't follow halal guidelines.

Next thing you know besides Chicken and Stars soup, there will be Chicken and Crescents.
^win.
JerseyGirl, does that mean I can blame the Muslims because my Ikea desk wobbles? Here I've been blaming those Swedish socialists and it's been the Muslims' fault all along!
"...does that mean I can blame the Muslims because my Ikea desk wobbles?"
Right now, it is fashionable to blame Muslims for EVERYTHING. Why, you could even blame them for global warming, if it actually existed.
Probably. Maybe Ikea should get into the meat business.
They sell A LOT of meatballs. Just sayin'
This is true. I wonder if it's halal...
