Ok, so I'm planning a road trip with my best friend to Niagara Falls and wanted some input. Anyone been there? Recommend anywhere specific to stay or things to do??
Any advice would be great! Thanks!!

You have come to the right place!
I used to live there for 2 years. First off if you are going in late april and want to see some good theatre. Go catch Niagara University's production on Flora The Red Menice. 2 excellent leads.(US side)
In Niagara Falls go to Clifton Hill. It's the touristy area, but its fun.
For scares check out Nightmares. The Ripleys museum is weird and cool. The Movie House of Wax is a rip off. The Burger King with Frankenstein's monster coming out the roof is the best Burger King ever, trust me! MarineLand is up there and fun. 2 great casinos for losing money. If you wanna see man ass go to Mints/Peppermints. For great drunken Kareoke(sp) go to The Beer Garden. For beer and video games go to Boston Pizza. As far as clubs go Daily Planet and RUmors are hot on busy night. The Hard Rock Club is nice too and there is no cover or minimum. This is all canadian side mind you.
The US side is pretty dead. Generally a college town and a broken metropolis of old. But good food can be had on PINE AVE. That's the Italian section of town. Well most of the city is, but thats the most concentrated area. Buffalo is a 20 minute drive at best and you can go to the Galleria Mall or catch a play at Studio Arena.
That's about all I can think of right now. Hit me up if you want more ideas.

The U.S. side is pretty depressing and run-down. The crazy tourist trap fun is on the Canadian side. Plus, you get a great exchange rate on U.S. money.
You MUST set aside a day to go to the town of Niagara-on-the Lake, Ontario. It's a beautiful 25 minute drive up the Niagara River, past the Whirlpool Rapids and the AeroCar ride, the botanic gardens, etc. The town is home to the Shaw Festival, where some of the best theatre on the continent is presented. The town itself was voted "most beautiful town in Canada", and is filed with great restaurants, gift shops, Bed & Breakfasts, etc. The atmosphere is the exact opposite of the garish neon of Clifton Hill, the tourist district of Niagara Falls, Ontario.
There ae also several wineries in the area, if you are into that whole "Sideways" thing.

For a great hotel, book a room at the brand new Embassy Suites on the Canadian side. It's over 40 stories high and is literally on top of the falls, you can't imagine the views. Plus it's walking distance from the casinos and nightclubs. If you use Orbitz.com, you should get a rate for about $100, and those rooms sleep 6 comfortably. (Pull out couches, plus two queens)
I second a trip to Niagara on the Lake. It's like something out of a wonderful movie. Check out the Shaw Festival (http://www.shawfest.com) to see if anything suits your fancy there. Excellent theatre.

I went to Niagra Falls last summer there is a lot to do there but I would do Cave of the Winds if it is open. But you might get soaking wet. I would also do Maid of the mist. Theres also Three Sister Islands which is a little before the falls. Very nice, plus it is very quite.
I also think the Embassy Suites is a great place to stay. My family and I were staying there before we left.
I'm sad that we didn't do Niagra on the lake. But we did drive part of the way to there stoped at the Whirlpool Rapids which was very cool.

haha it's so bad... i've lived in buffalo all my life, so niagara falls is NOTHING to me now that i've seen it year after year... although i highly recommend spending time at clifton hill... it is a lot of fun. Maid of the Mist is great and i haven't done Cave of the Winds yet... and i also heard the jetboat tours is a lot of fun. the american side is starting to turn around with a new casino built (they're popping up everywhere) and hopefully we'll have more things coming. but yeah, buffalo isnt bad on a warm day, which we have had... its not far at all

I wonder if ARTPARK is still open.
We used to tour there every summer.
The theatre was in Lewiston but our hotel was always a stones throw from the falls.

Posted: 4/15/05 at 9:52pmI went a few years ago and the cool thing was it was raining and like a half hour before we left it cleared and a rainbow came out. It was a beautiful sight but i dont know where my pictures are at the moment. I am not sure of places to stay but i was on vacation in Toronto when i went. All i remember about the hotel is it was 31 flights and i ran up them all and our friends had the presidents suite and it was the biggest hotel room i had ever seen. Wait now that im thinking that might of been Montreal. Yeah it was but now i am blanking on where i stayed. Such a pointless post, sorry.

Also on the American side, is a nice (very small) aquarium. The name escapes me at the moment, but it had a wonderful outdoor seal and sealion exhibit.
The Canadian side has a better view of the falls, but the American side has a beautifu park all aroud the falls. Do check out 3 Sisters Island it is quite impressive to see up CLOSE and personal the rapids leading up to the falls. (I'll try to post a picture later of it).
Clifton Hill is something that shoud be seen. Very loud and very tacky. Imagine if you will a carnival midway.
See the falls at night when they are all lit up, and if you are really lucky the fireworks over the falls are really cool!
If you have the time.... a trip to the zoo in Toronto should is a must.
Enjoy your trip!
