I'm not the kind of person to tell people what to do. Smoking isn't for me, but I could care less if others do it. But-
Why do people constantly feel the need to expose strangers to second hand smoke? It drives me crazy. Our smoking ban happened a few months ago, and since then, I've noticed everyone smokes on the street now. They smoke in doorways I need to enter, walk down the street and blow it in everyone's face. This smoking ban seems pointless. I could have easily avoided bars and smoking restraunts, but now, since they can't do it indoors, they do it outside and subject more innocent people to second hand smoke. It seems so pointless.

Posted: 3/13/06 at 6:55pmI totally agree DramaDork! Smoking killed my grandma. The mentoring group at my school went to a bunch of middle schools to do an anti-smoking program. I know a lot of the kids there decided not to smoke.

Posted: 3/13/06 at 6:56pmEveryone in my town used to smoke outside of two places. Shop and Stop, or WalMart. I am still to this day confused of how they only smoked there. Did they have a secret underground meeting, knowing that I go to these places often? I think so.

Posted: 3/13/06 at 6:57pmI hate when I walk into my apartment building and people are in my doorway smoking. Again, they can smoke, just not in my freaking face.

Posted: 3/13/06 at 6:58pmI wasn't bashing smoking, just continuing on of your theme of people smoking outdoors constantly now instead of just keeping it to themselves.

I hate smoking. A lot of the kids who smoke in my school hangout on this block near my highschool so I have to walk past them to get to school and breath in their smoke everyday. I like to make comments when I pass like "WOW, I think I just got emphysema" or "holy f*ck, I just got high" (depends what kind of smoke I smell
). I have no problem if people smoke, it's ultimately their own decision..but don't make me breathe it.

I feel your pain Bobby. Many areas of the Twin Cities passed a smoking ban last year, and while I do appreciate being able to go into a bar and not feeling the need to cough up my left lung the next day, since the smokers have been pushed outside it's been even harder to escape on a day to day basis.
Even when places establish smoking spots away from doors and windows, it seems like they're very rarely utilized by those choosing to smoke.
ETA: Also agree with the apartment building issue. It's especially problematic for me as I am located right next to an entrance and I can't open my windows because the smoke blows right into my apartment. They might as well just come in my apartment and smoke.

When I smoke, I am always VERY concious of where the smoke goes, sometimes to the point that my friends make fun of me for turning all the way around when I exhale. I feel like just because I choose to do it, others don't need to be subjected to it. There are times when I am very out of it though and am unaware of it bothering others. I am not in the least offended if they tell me it is bothering them. I am actually quite thankful that they let me know and I will adjust accordingly if posssible.

Posted: 3/13/06 at 7:07pmOoooh I hate that one too. I also think people who don't bath should spray themselves after they smoke. Why does the smell cling to some people, but others you'd never even know they just smoked?

Some people's body odour is enough to overpower the smoke. Do I fall into this category...who knows? I hope not.

i know what you mean... when i walk my dog we walk past a row a resturaunts, and people are always standing outside smoking, not really caring where they blow their smoke. it's kind of like they're saying "you wont let us smoke where we want, then screw you."
that being said, i really wish my brother didn't smoke... you'd think he would be more carefull about things like that since our grandfather on our dad's side died of lung cancer and our grandmother on my mom's side is a lung cancer survivor.

Posted: 3/13/06 at 7:13pmI read the thread. I expressed my opinion on smoking. I know it wasn't exactly on topic but I wasn't completely pulling something out of my ass. It's something I feel strongly about. Sorry if that bothers you, BobbyBubby. And I wasn't "bashing" smokers. I was just saying it's a disgusting habit, the people who smoke aren't disgusting but the idea of putting smoke into your lungs on purpose disgusts me.
