I can't find Mamie's original thread supporting the Breast Cancer Site, so I thought I'd a new one.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each year, over 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and over 40,000 die. One woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Approximately 1,700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die each year.

If detected early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer exceeds 96%. Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram.

The Breast Cancer Site provides free mammograms for low-income women who lack access to both health facilities and information. Please take a few seconds and click on the linked site. Your simple act of clicking on the highlighted "Click Here To Give" is free to you, yet provides funds for those in need.

It looks like we were posting at the same time, Moony!

I just want to add that there was recently some question as to whether these 'clicks' actually do anything or not. The "Hoax Slayer" web site did some looking into it and found that it was completely honest and did provide real donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). When you click on the button, you are immediately transferred to a page that acknowledges your 'click' and provides advertisements from a whole slew of manufacturers of jewelry, clothes, etc. Their goal (of course) is to get you to buy one of their products. They will then give a small percentage of the sale back to the NBCF. Each of those advertisers have a contract with the NBCF to pay for those advertisements based on the number of times a visitor to the site 'clicks' on the pink button. Those are flat-out payments, made directly to the NBCF, that won't cost you a red cent. If you want to buy something, go ahead - but it's not necessary. You've done your good deed by simply clicking on the button.

So how about it? A click, every day, can help so much!

Excellent point, Mamie! It does have that "too easy to be true" aura. Few opportunities for giving are this simple AND helpful.

The daily results have been really low all year. Usually you see a big surge in October and they'll get 20-25 mammograms paid for each day. Sadly this month doesn't seem to be pulling in much more support than at any other time. I don't know why people won't do this. Maybe someone here who has seen this request and chooses not to click will tell us why? (Unfortunately most of them will never open this thread anyway.)
