Daniel Radcliffe = Freddie Mercury

I love Daniel Radcliffe and I would love for him to nail this role but I confess it's hard to imagine him as Mercury.

I've been thinking about this and it just might work. Freddie was a little man who could fill a lot of space. I think it always works better to have an unknown in a biopic of a very famous person but I think in this case the public doesn't know much of the off-stage Freddie (especially in the US). You know Daniel won't shy away from the gay content.

It's unfortunate Sascha Baron Cohen dropped out of this. He would have been perfect.

Mmmm, I was never crazy about SBC- he is a flashy man, always pulling focus at every moment- the antithesis of Freddie. Freddie was quiet and almost shy until he "came alive" as a performer. I think Radcliffe will show that.

Joe, I've never thought of SBC as a flashy individual. His characters are absolutely over-the-top (not unlike Freddy's stage persona) but as an individual he keeps to himself and is fiercely protective of his privacy. He sounds like he would have been an ideal choice for the Freddy you describe, and I had been excited at the prospect of him playing the role. Not to mention, his apparent reason for leaving the project (that he wanted it to be an R-rated film and the band wanted it to be PG-13) is certainly an honorable one.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

It'll probably end up being R rated anyway. Daniel will want to take his clothes off.

I guess I mean I've never seen SBC underplay a scene- or even play a quiet scene.

And I do indeed like him in just about everything he's played.

If they're going for a PG-13, count me out. It'll be a sanitized, whitewashed version of Mercury's life. And as much as I admire Radcliffe...dear God, no!

D-Rad isn't going to be F-Merc after all.

Damn it! I was so looking forward to the scene where Freddie had sex with my college roommate in the back of his limousine.
