How can I not be ready for the best show on television?

I usually like this show. But I'm not sure about this season. I hate children.

If they make the kids eat four pounds of beef, however, I'm all for that. re: Official Amazing Race 8- family edition thread

I've loved all the previous seasons, but I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about the family edition. I guess I'll find out in a few hours.

I would be an AWESOME host!

"Jonathan and Victoria, you are the fourth team to arrive. So Jonathan, does yelling and shoving your wife give you a sense of empowerment? If so, why does it not seem to help your game in any way? Oh Jonathan, she's not COMPLETELY useless, I mean, you've got someone to blame now, haven't you? And Victoria, we know you suffer from codependency and low self-esteem, but did your plastic surgeon advise you that your new face would make you look unnatural and somewhat freakish? Do you think this could be the reason why you are greeted with disdain in foreign countries? I didn't think so, either, but I just didn't want to be so obvious about it. To be honest, hatred of Jonathan could be the most common aspect of all people worldwide regardless of race, religion, culture, or class. Speaking of class....no, I promised I wouldn't go there. Perhaps we could harness this universal commonality in man to promote global unification. You see, Victoria? You can assemble a facade of joy without showing everyone your woo-woo. Counseling is available at this pit-stop."

"Colon and Crusty....I'm sorry to say you have been eliminated from the race. Not a single person in the world not related to you felt you deserved to win. We will take all of your money and all your dignity...oops...you lost that a few weeks ago. Didn't mean to salt the wound. A divorce lawyer is available at this pit-stop."

"Gretchen and....uh...oh good God, would you please just SHUT UP! How did you EVER get this far? I've already lost $200 bucks in the office pool."

I'm not looking forward to this season. They are covering many less places, and will concentrate more in the US.....probably due to security issues.
There are no "diverse" families, rather all related...all straight.
Frankly, I think I'll be bored to death

So who else did a double-take when they introduced "The Black family from Virginia" as they show an African-American family? I was like, "EXCUSE ME? Oh...that's their name." It was so weird.

Oh how interesting! A Pillsbury commercial featuring Linda Lavin singing "You've Got Possibilities" from It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's Superman! I love that song!

Which is more gay? That I recognize the song or that I love it?

Does the politically incorrect Dad seem like he craves Creamsicles or is it just me?

All I can say is the "Growing Up Gotti" family is going to get on my nerves fast. But not as fast as the family that has to pray before they get in the car, get out of the car, read a clue or take a crap.

I hate them all......the Screaming Sisters, The Italian Yellers, those stupid sons-in-law with Daddy Buddha Belly, and the christians........oh sheesh if that woman and her kids ask for Gods help one more time, I'LL SCREAM.........

actually I like the 'Runner' family.......but I have to admit, I was bored after the first hour. I am not enjoying the trip through the US.......

And I'm sorry, exatly how DOES one get run over by an Amish buggy?

And yes......when they said the Black family, both our jaws dropped.

I'm not sure this will hold my interest this year

I enjoyed the show--I like that they are doing American landmarks.

Some hotties on the show--especially the 3 brothers with their sis.

I agree---gay parents would have been a great opportunity, but this show has always been very good to the community. If they do a second family race, I bet they include gay parents.

In tribute to the Black family being eliminated I recap one of the better quotes of the show spoken by the younger son, "and it doesn't hurt that I'm kinda cute". Yes you are, baby!

I'm already hooked - love this show. Not sure who I'm rooting for yet.

As annoying as the Jersey family is, I do feel sorry for the mother. The boys treat her like crap and the father encourages them. When she said she was embarrassed by her family, I really felt for her. The two sons remind me of the older brother in Welcome to the Dollhouse.

I don't mind the Christian family at all. One of my best friends is like that and it's just a huge part of her. She's outgoing and fun and never tries to force her view on others. She just loves praying and it makes her feel good. They lost their father/husband and are a very loving tight-knit group. I like them.

The three brothers and the sister are not the brightest lights on the Christmas tree. When they realized that they could barely do half the buggy trip, they should have just chucked it and gone to build the house (which would have been my first choice). ALWAYS build! It is ALWAYS faster to build! Have these people NEVER watched the show?

So far, the family of runners, the pink ladies and the Christians are my favorites. But it's too soon to root for anyone yet.

Did anyone recognize Kevin and Drew from Season 1 as the operators of the hot dog stand?

I'm not thrilled about this edition - it's so unwieldy with so many racers, but hopefully as they get whittled down, it will grow on me.

it's too early for me to pick favorites too, but i really loved how the runner parents were so supportive of the kids...the runner kids are cute, but possibly a little over confident...we'll see. also, it was a brutal moment watching the kids realize they lost.

"I bet if Washington walked across the Delaware like Jesus she would have understood the clue."

bwahh ha ha ha ha ha!

Think about this: If there had been a Caucasian family on the show whose surname happended to be "White" would it have been mentioned here at all?

The sons of the mother familty with the uneducated accents are getting on my nerves as well.

There's plenty of places to go/things to see within the US especially if they go to the interior of Alaska.

Do we think the racers are aware that they won't be leaving the country? Are we even certain of that?

blacks named black = yes
whites named white = no
blacks named white = probably
whites named black = probably not

all = demonstration that there is still racial divide in the usa (not that we needed one)

the runner kids tend to make me want to scream.........cute only goes so far, but I also like how the parents supported them.........and I was also impressed with the Black family, and how they supported their kids.....I was actually sad to see them go

Yes I agree w/ you 100% Elphaba...the Gaghan Family (the runners) Kids may be too precocious. I'm holding out on them, but...yes...the parents are soooo sweet.

The Linz's (siblings)...lovable dorks.

The Shroeder's (obnoxious dad)like 'em so far except for the dad.

Aiello's (son's in laws)..fun...but dad looks like he's about to die any second.

Weaver's (widow & kids)...fun to watch, but I hate the holy roller stuff

Bransen's (dad & daughters)...boring

Paolo's (mom vs. sons)...brutal..if i were her i'd quit..the kids s/b competitive, but they are horrible to her...very embarassing.

Godlewski's (ladies in pink from des plaines) midwestern fun

Rogers Family -- i don't remember a thing about them.
