And on a lighter note: our beloved NY weatherperson, Sam Champion (infamously outed by Dame Edna, and now part of a campaign with candles held high to Queen's ditty -- straight stockbrokers sitting in a bar, getting goey as they croon, "We LOVE Sam Champ-ION!"), was selected to fill in for Larry King tonight on CNN. Who knew he was being ... so groomed?
I was kinda hoping he'd interview Anderson Cooper about staying in a Motel 6 during a hurricane or something ("oh yeah, Sambo, I had to sleep under a CHENILLE spread!") but alas, it's all about the Royals. Sam, apparently, is very into that fun couple, Charles and Camilla. If you're tired of Rove, Lance, and Harry Potter sales, check it out. Can a talk show be far behind?
You go Sam!!

Sam has a house at the Fire Island Pines. He's there every weekend in the summer months.

I'm watching the repeat broadcast. Actually it's a re-run of a program that aired some time earlier. It has to be, unless Sam is changing his clothes like crazy. He wore a completely different outfit when he did the 5 PM news and the 11 PM news.
He's doing a good job, though. Very poised and articulate.
Dollypop do you have a house uin the Pines?

No, I live on the mainland.
Dame Edna outed him? To who? And when? Sam Champion's sexual orientation has been known for years. I used to run into him at Splash. Big Whahoo.
I'm glad he's landed himself such a high profile gig. I wish him the best.
Just seeing Sammy's name in this thread gives me wood. He is the stuff that all of my wet dreams are made of. SWOON!!!!!!

There were stories floating around the internet that Sam was partnered with Mike Piazza of the NY Mets. I don't know how true they were.
Of course that rumor wasn't true. Sam is saving himself for me.

Having seen Our Sam in the flesh in the Pines (Okay, he was wearing a tiny painted-on Speedo), I must say that he must spend an awfully long time at the gym each day. To good result, too.
On a side note, slightly bitchy, do you think he's had his eyes done?
Actually, when I said Dame Edna "outed" Sam, I didn't mean that in the strict sense she revealed him as gay to a startled populace. She gently exploited him as a local gay icon when she talked about "Kenny," perhaps surprising some members of the audience who'd "guessed" but never moved in circles where the news officiated. I in no way meant it as a put down of either Edna or Sam; I was looking for a change of pace after so many posts on Karl Rove! Voila, the sherbet between courses: Champion.
But Marquise, not to put too fine a pt on it: Being a regular at Splash doens't really mean you're "out," not these days, does it? There are plenty of, say, gay Republicans (and don't scream at me, I'm in no way suggesting Sam is one) who drop into gay bars with some regularity, but are harly out in their jobs, families, or community. If appearing at a gay bar -- or a cruising spot - meant "out," it's in the 1950s sense, no? We're parsing words here like, say, our careful President.
