IMDB's trivia for the day:

Q: Emmy Rossum was cast in The Phantom of the Opera since this actress was unavailable (she was set to film the sequel to her breakout hit).

A: Anne Hathaway

I heard Anne Hathaway was considered at one point. That makes sense...Princess Diaries was a hit, and she filmed Princess Diaries 2.

I think they also considered Christy Romano...*shudders*

And also Charlotte Church. But out of those 3, Hathaway makes the most sense.

It's not true. Ann was in the running until the end, and both Ann and Emmy were screen tested for the part. It was down to the two of them, but they cast Emmy.

The only reason Ann was unavailable was because they didn't give her the part. And she wanted it very badly, too.
