Residents of Philadelphia and those in the know: are there any websites that offer discount codes to both the Prince and Walnut Street Theatres? Thanks.
I don't know about discounts except for student rush for those under age 24.
But I highly recommend 42nd Street currently playing at the Walnut Street Theater. I saw it this past weekend on Saturday and thought it was a great production! Especially Cara Cooper, who plays Peggy Sawyer, she was a phenomenal dancer and had a great voice!
I'm trying to do a double header of 42nd Street and Annie Get Your Gun.
I love 42nd Street.
Liotte, where did you sit? How big is the house?
Thanks.
The house isn't very big. I sat in the orchestra center row G for the matinee, and then sat in the balcony row J for the night show. You can see from everywhere. There are also people who come up to the balcony to sing at times, so they play to everyone. You can hear the tapping loud and clear and the dancing is so great, it's better not to be in the very front so you can see it all.
Thanks. That helps a lot. I can't wait to see this.
Be sure to share your thoughts on it!
if you sign up for free, the fun guide will send out a weekly list of half off discounts for certain theatre events. the walnut and prince aren't always on it, but it has some other great stuff.
half price theatre in philly
Dottie, heading out in a few hours for dinner & Walnut's 42nd St. If you like, pm and let me know when you're coming in for the shows. I haven't set my Prince date yet! (I'm always good for a laugh, as you know)
ps: I'll try to find out about more discounts from my PR at these theaters for ya.
Premium tickets aren't only a Broadway ploy, Walnut Street Theatre has instituted the same thing. I think their premium prices were $115 per ticket. I kid you not!
It seems the $115 seat is a premium ticket which $47.50 is tax deductable(?) I'n not sure what this is all about. The regular ticket prices are $10 to $67.50. Call to clarify.
But...I would make the trek folks!
This one is worth whatever price you can afford. The crowd was "roaring" at almost every dance number at last night's opening. Not a weak link in the casting. David Elder's Billy Lawlor simply WOWS the crowd! And he is just as nice as he is talented.

BWW review to come.
PB ENT, thanks for the clarification on that.
I'm so looking forward to this as I didn't end up making it to the final performance of the Broadway production (even though I had a ticket).
By the way, do they use the staircase in the 42nd Street finale?
PB, I'd love to hear a more detailed review!
Dottie, yep the staircase is there. This is an almost 100% equity cast. Besides David Elder, who played Billy for the 4 year Broadway run, there's George Dvorsky (SP, Whorehouse & Pete N'Kelly) playing Pat Denning and former Phantom Mark Jacoby who does a wonderful job as Julian Marsh.
All three female leads are equally strong. Susan Cella (20th Century, Evita, Hairspray tour) playing Dorthy Brock. Cara Cooper( Wedding Singer,All Shook Up ,Urban Cowboy)plays Peggy Sawyer and Diane Findlay ( Hello Dolly, Anything Goes, Steel Magnolia) plays Maggie Jones.
