One of the best things about the end of the year? It's list time!!!
Yeah, most of these are bands you never heard of, but that's what's great about it! Expand your horizons beyond what Clear Channel tells you to listen to. If it werent' for these lists, I never would have heard of Deerhoof, Spoon, Arcade Fire and many many other of my faves.
Enjoy!

I might have placed Kanye and Arcade Fire up higher. But really, where else but Pitchfork would Arcade Fire not make the top ten.
Also, that list must be freaking out Parks, still looking for that "awesome" Britney "album."

Posted: 1/8/08 at 10:09amI urge all of you to check out Jens Lekman. He's only twenty four and, I think, a genius. Imagine a less pissy Rufus Wainwright or Belle and Sebastian with a dash of Magnetic Fields. Absolutely brill!

Rock critics are in the business of rubbing your nose in the fact that they are hipper than you. They have no interest in quality or honesty- in fact, if their "Darling" becomes popular they will do everything they can to distance themselves from it. The goal of a music critic is to get you upset.

"They have no interest in quality or honesty."
Not to speak in ginormous sweeping generalizations or anything.

You're right- Let me rephrase. In all of my dealings with Rock Critics, I have never met one who was interested in recognizing quality or reporting their opinions honestly.
