Please Say a Prayer

I just got a phone call that my childhood best friend of 6 years was killed this morning in a drunk driving accident. She was 19. I don't know what to do, I can't function, I'm just completely devistated. Please say a prayer for Laura and her family.

Thank you all so much.

I just got more details. She was on her way home from Canada where they were drinking, her good* friend was driving. She lost control of the car. Laura wasn't wearing her seat belt and went through the windshield.

I don't know what to do.

*Edit-At first I was told it was her best friend driving, but it turned out to be someone else.

Holly, it's okay that you don't know what to do. Just feel what you're feeling. Don't fight it, and don't think about what you "should" feel.

Thanks to all of you here and to those who have PMed and emailed. I appreciate it more than you know.

I just took a basket of muffins and danish type stuff over to her house. Her dad just kept talking about not being able to find three cemetary plots together, then breaking down. He just kept saying, "I just don't want her to be alone." And her mom was talking about how she had to go shopping because she doesn't have anything for her to be burried in.


Completely heartbreaking.

I'm so sorry. The love of my life got into a car with some dumb boy she was dating while she was trying to figure out whether she wanted an 'us' or not -- fortunately she was not killed but she was seriously injured. I have no love lost for drunk drivers....my thoughts are with you.

Unfortunately, Holly, there really isn't anything you can do. Your gesture was a wonderful one, as it lets them know that you are there - and that's the most important thing of all. As others have said, allow your feelings - and you're going to have a lot of them.

You are all being thought of by a great many people - take comfort, at least, in the knowledge that you are not alone.

I just got back from the vigil, it was really beautiful.

I have more details but they may be TMI please proceed with caution.

Apparently they were coming home from Canada where both girls had been drinking, the driver passed out, the car crossed the median and slammed into a cement wall. My friend who wasn't wearing a seat belt (sorry I cannot remeber if I said that or not.) was partially ejected from the car. The driver woke up this morning in a jail cell with no recollection to anything at all. She may serve up to fifteen years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
