I love how down to earth Michelle and Barack are. Here they are at home just hanging out. Very sweet. Reminder, Obama will be on 60 Minutes tonight. I believe it is the first story and they are there on election night as he wins.

Do you have to post about every mundane thing Obama et al. do? What's next? President Obama Taking A SH*T?
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia

The important question is:
WHICH DO THE OBAMAS USE IN THEIR TUNA FISH SALAD:
...OR...

I'm curious about the wiping.
North to south, or south to north?
(Okay, NO, I'm not that curious.)

Honestly, I think it's cool that there is a sizable number of Americans who are doting on their every sandwich slice.
It reminds me of that "aren't they the coolest family?" attention paid to the Kennedys when they first went to the White House.
They're certainly "camera ready."
America's first and most photogenic family! Ideal and idealistic.
I dig it.

Diverse is now cool. Smart is now cool. Eloquent is now cool. Voting is now cool. America is now cool. Cool.

It's so true. I think it's AWESOME that people are actually interested in this stuff again. It's NICE that the first family can actually be a role model for other families. That people actually care enough about our next leader to BE following these things. It may not be the most necessary thing to watch them make tuna salad, but the fact that we enjoy it is quite a cool thing. Because it means we actually CARE about them. And if we care about them, we'll probably start caring more about the policies and plans that are made in the next 4 (hopefully
years :)

We're hopeful again. We see in them the future. Not the past.
And even though we haven't seen a family like theirs heading off to the White House ever, in a way, they remind us of US. We're perhaps "not conventional" either.
And that's cool.
Here's to the new "convention!"

I am a parent of three daughters (ages 13, 17 and 21), and based on my observations of them and their friends, our future looks bright, especially regarding diversity and respecting others. I think back a generation ago, when I was their age, and I am ashamed to admit I wasn't as open to people who were different from me. My kids' circles of friends are truly diverse, with kids of all races, and kids who are openly gay (for the older two, at least). I can't say that the adults in our town are as respectful, because I see ignorance every day. But the future looks good.
And because of my interst in this election, they are all politically aware. My 13 year-old is probably more familiar with the candidates' positions than most adults. We've always stressed the importance of voting, but now they understand the importance of being an informed voter.

Posted: 11/9/08 at 10:22pmmadbrian- I totally agree. My kids are 16 and 14. We are Jewish and one of my daughter's best friends is Muslim. In fact, we have been inviting her to our Christmas Day trip to the movies. My daughter also has many GBF's (Gay Best Friends). She has told me about several lively discussions she has had at school where she has had to defend Obama and what his beliefs are. She was also defending Prop 2 and what voting No actually meant (it's the marriage is between a man and woman bill- she was for voting NO- which unfortunately did not win) She is pretty correct too! I am very proud of how "wordly" my kids are. When I went to high school- it wasn't even discussed and I remember how interesting it was to see ads of men seeking men in my college newspaper. Anyway, both of my kids have been learning as much as they can so they can make good choices in the next election. They are excited to vote!

I prefer the GW Bush Tuna Salad recipe:
Take the family yacht out and cast the net. Make fun of any whales dragged up and be sure to kill them before dumping them back. Stupid whales. Pick only the best looking Tuna and have the staff clean, gut and can it. Then, have the boy take a couple cans to the maid. She does what she does and brings you your tuna salad sandwich. Send it back, complaining bitterly.
