Does anyone use this instant messaging program?
I just bought a Powerbook, and I didn't like iChat very much, so Lari recommended that I use Proteus. I have it up and running and like it better than iChat, but I was wondering if someone could help me out with a few things? I have this compulsion to get it as close to AIM as possible.
- I know that you can have pop-up notifications for when someone signs on/off, but you have to set them up for each individual. Is there a way to get it to happen for your entire buddy list? Or is there a way to flash the buddy list when people sign on, or something?
- Is there something like the Accept Message dialogue that AIM has?
- I chose a layout that doesn't have the little bubbles. I know in the bubble layout, when your buddy is typing, it says "...." but is there a way to display that the person you're chatting with is typing in any of the other layouts?
- Right now, in my IM windows, it's displaying my actual name. Is there a way to change it so it displays my AIM screen name? That's the account I'm signed on with.
- Everyone I chat with just has standard black font appearing on Proteus, but they don't on AIM. Is there a way to view their usual colors and fonts? Also, is there a way to make the text in the windows simply LOOK bigger? It's tiny!
- When I minimize chat windows, and I get a new message, the minimized window just pops right up, and I often type a message in the wrong window because it popped up mid-type. Is there a way to stop it from doing that?
I know a lot of these things are just little comfort nitpicks, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't been able to find a way to view another user's usual colors and fonts. Sorry. 
That goes for any Mac messenger other than AIM, which is sadly, a piece of crap.
There is something like the accept message dialogue that AIM has, I believe. OR was that ichat? I might be mixing it up...
Minimizing chat windows. I don't know anything about that because I just use the drawer. I don't have any problems like that with the drawer, and you deal with a LOT less windows. They're just tabs if you use the drawer.

Maybe I'll try the drawer.
All of the text on this computer is so TINY. I'll have to thumb through the booklet and figure out how to fix that.

Posted: 12/29/05 at 6:32pmIf you want bigger text in the system, just go to the View Menu in the Finder and change the Text size. The default, I believe, is 12 and can go as small as 10 but you can also take it up to as high as 16.

Thanks, pab. I found that setting and changed it; I'll have to try Proteus to see if it's bigger.
ETA -- that changed the text under the icons on my desktop, and in my instant messaging, but not the text once I opened the windows for applications and things. Hm. Maybe if I restart.

I uploaded ones that AIM size, LJ size, and even just a random photo, but when I chat with people on AIM, they see a small picture and then white space surrounding it. My photos apparently don't fill the Proteus icon upload box. gr.

Em, I know nothing about the application, but every time I see the title of this thread I think of Star Trek and Proton Torpedos!

ETA -- another question: do names go grey when the person is idle? I checked off "show idle badges" but I don't know if that's it.
