Yesterday, Karl Rove testified for almost four hours before a federal grand jury about his previous statements pertaining to the leak of an undercover CIA agent’s identity. Rove offered this stunning defense:

Rove’s testimony focused almost exclusively on his conversation about Plame with Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper in 2003 and whether the top aide later tried to conceal it, the source [close to Rove] said. Rove testified, in essence, that “it would have been a suicide mission” to “deliberately lie” about his conversation with Cooper because he knew beforehand that it eventually would be revealed, the source said.

Rove wants the grand jury to believe that he wouldn’t have lied in 2003 about his role in the Plame affair because he knew journalists would ultimately tell the truth. But in fact, President Bush and the White House believed in 2003 that journalists would remain silent about the case and would refuse to name their sources:

Grand Jury 1 - I did not talk to reporters.

Grand Jury 2 - I did not talk to reporters.

Grand Jury 3 - I did not talk to reporters.

Grand Jury 4 - Okay, I talked to reporters but did not remember having done so.

Grand Jury 5 - Okay, Okay, I did talk to reporters and I did remember having done so but only after I was reminded of my knowledge that the conversations would come out... So I did not lie in my first four GJ testimonies because knowing that you can’t remember that which you know will become public is not lying unless you knew it before it became known... You know what I mean? I’m going to jail, aren’t I?

that's just a fraction of the threads that were started alleging criminal action or predicting an indictment for karl rove in the cia leak case. since they were proved wrong by last night's announcement and since i was proved right in my assessment that he would not be indicted, i am engaging in the most juvenile of practices: i am gloating like nobody's business.

I missed that. God knows I hate her but she's getting more press over this than her book circuit.
Funny thing, though: given Mary Cheney's dismal book sales, if Ann's sells well, is this some sort of a right-wing balancing act?

given the choice i'd have preferred mary's book get the heavy end of things, if it had to be a balancing act. but the shrillest voice usually gets the most press.

Right. And la Cheney (is she the most feminine Cheney?) seems to be coming from apologist land. Never a good way to sell a book.
However, call war widows harpies their husbands wanted to divorce, praise McCarthy...whammo. Instasales.

remember, bway, there's a buttload of folks out there who will buy this book and never read it. also scores of folks who'll buy multiple copies just to boost the numbers (just as folks were exhorted to do for crashing the gates and others). but sadly there's way too many folks out there who will buy it, read it and preach it.

Well, boosting the numbers of a book are as good/bad as reading and believing. It all encourages yet another screed from that harpie.
Is harpie even a harsh enough term for her? I think there's no end to the hyperbole when you're referring to rANNt.
