Posted: 1/15/06 at 12:24pmI have to go to my temp job. Does that count? I have to transcribe a focus group while they're talking. I'm scared sh*tless. I type really fast, but not that fast.

I actually get it off!
But, my co-workers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa don't.
One point for diversity.

Elphaba, that is because your company is run by folks who might in fact be sensitive to how being open tomorrow would seem to its employees.
We were acquired a few years back, with the management of the acquirer centered in where someone actually told me that "we don't have any real racial issues here . . ."
Well, maybe it is because you have a whole lot of white people there, and not much else.
We had the holiday when we were acquired. They did not have it. They let us keep it out of the goodness of their hearts and because our offices happen to have a very large non-anglo work force. Those that did not have it, still do not get it.
OK - off my Rant.
I need to find a new job in a smaller company!

HA.
The day my school actually acknowledges a national holiday other than Christmas, I'll be sure to be on the lookout for four horsemen.

Posted: 1/15/06 at 6:43pmI'm working, but my husband isn't. Since I work in a library that only employs 5 people, we generally vote on whether to be off or not, but my boss didn't even ask. I took a full two weeks off for Christmas though so I don't feel okay about asking for any time off for a while.

Posted: 1/15/06 at 6:46pmOn campus, MLK Day is "a day on, not a day off!" (Translation - we're supposed to use our day out of class to do something positive for the community, following King's example.) However, I feel my community will probably best be served by my staying indoors with what is officially The World's Worst Head Cold. In years past, though, I've participated in some of the special service projects for the day and had a blast. Much better than going to class.

Posted: 1/15/06 at 11:25pmI think I was originally supposed to have the day off, but the drug coverage from Medicare is not working like it is supposed to and people are PISSED off so they are making us work.
