Selena Gomez as Beezus, so you can imagine what this movie looks like.

Posted: 3/19/10 at 8:07amI hate when they make children's books into movies. The movie never lives up to the magic of the book. One of the worst examples was "Harriet the Spy." What a horrible transfer that was. The only one that I think was a good transfer was "Charlotte's Web" (the cartoon musical version).

Sandra Oh! With this cast, I think I will love it.

i still haven't seen "bridge to terabithia" because i loved the book so much in middle school and i'm afraid to see what they've done to it.
i think as long as "make way for ducklings" doesn't become a major motion picture featuring the voices of zach braff, robin williams, oprah and molly shannon, my childhood won't be completely raped by the film industry.
it would also be ok if justin long had a voice part, but that's about it.

Posted: 3/19/10 at 3:47pmI loved how the books took place in the year they came out, so that Ramona was like four in the 50s and 8 in the 80s.

Posted: 3/19/10 at 3:49pmWhat I'm not sure about is if kids today still read these books. Do they know who these characters are? I remember in college, the freshmen who were three years younger than me had no idea who Punky Brewster was.

Posted: 3/19/10 at 5:08pmOnce I was telling someone about my trip to the Pony Swim at Chincoteague only to find out that "Misty of Chincoteague" is a very regional book. How could anyone make it through childhood without Misty of Chincoteauge?

"How could anyone make it through childhood without Misty of Chincoteauge?"
You know, it's weird. I had a friend who reacted the exact same way when I said I had never heard of the book.
I thought this casting was announced a while back, because I remember it made me equally suspect then. Selena Gomez seems to... I dunno, mature? Stylish? The Beezus in my mind was a more down to Earth girl.
Also, did anyone else do the Henry Huggins and Ribsy books? I think my mom tried to start me on those, but I found Ramona so much more relatable and interesting.

Posted: 3/20/10 at 12:23am^ That was my reaction about Selena playing Beezus. When I read the books, I just pictured her being a more plain looking girl. I don't even remember how old she was supposed to be.

"Also, did anyone else do the Henry Huggins and Ribsy books?"
I started first with the Henry Huggins books. And when I had read through all of them, I started on Ramona and Beezus.
I was also very much into Encyclopedia Brown at that time.

Posted: 3/21/10 at 2:22amI am still mad at Hollywood for Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. The original book in and of itself could have easily been expanded upon to make a good movie. However, they just used the title and created their own story.

I too am wary about the way this movie is looking.
How could you have a childhood without Ramona Quimby?
