(I'm aorry if this should go in the main forum, but I'm a student and so I figured I'd put it here...)

Have you ever noticed lyrics that seem to be oddly similar, even if the tunes are way different?

Here's mine:
All That's Known from Spring Awakening
and On My Own from Les Miserables

All that’s known On my own
In History, in Science Pretending he’s beside me
Overthrown All alone
At school, at home, by blind men I walk with him ‘til morning

You doubt them, Without him
And soon they bark and hound you I feel his arms around me
Till everything you say is just another bad about you And when I lose my way I close my eyes and he has found me

All they say In the rain
Is “Trust in what is written” The pavement shines like silver
Wars are made All the lights
And somehow that is wisdom Are misty in the river

Thought is suspect In the darkness
And money is their idol The trees are full of starlight
And nothing is okay unless it’s scripted in their Bible And all I see is him and me for ever and forever

But I know And I know
There’s so much more to find It’s only in my mind
Just in looking through myself That I’m talking to myself
And not at them And not to him

Still, I know And although
To trust my own true mind I know that he is blind
And to say Still I say
There’s a way through this There’s a way for us

On I go I love him
To wonder and to learning But every day I’m learning
Name the stars All my life
And know their dark returning I’ve only been pretending

I’m calling Without me
To know the world’s true yearning His world will go on turning
The hunger that a child feels A world that’s full of happiness
For everything they’re shown That I have never known

You watch me I love him
Just watch me I love him
I’m calling I love him
And one day But only
All will know On my own

(okay, so I cut one verse from On My Own, but still!)

Anyone else notice things like this? ^_^

Sometimes I mix up "Now" from "A Little Night Music" and "Find Yourself A Man" from Funny Girl. I'm not sure if there's a similarity, or if i'm just weird.

Eponine- that's hilarious! You could pull a Forbidden Broadway and flip the two melodies like they did with "Some Enchanted Evening" and "If Ever I Would Leave You."

-My fault, I fear.

That happens to me all the time... If I'm singing, and one word within a verse corresponds to a word that begins a different verse of a completely different song from a completely different musical, especially if the pitches match.

Rarely is this a concious behavior!

The first thing I thought of when I read the subject of this thread was "Monticello" from Edges and "Someone Else's Life" from Tales from the Bad Years. They're really similar theme-wise and lyrically.

I need a change in point-of-view / Give me someone else's life ... / Someone else who knows that he has love to give / Someone who won't dream of living someone else's life

-- "Someone Else's Life"

and

I'm gonna ditch this life and never return / And i wont' look back and I'll finally learn / that I can't wait around til the day that I die

-- "Monticello"

Love both songs.
