Did anybody get their special edition copies of the PS3 and Xbox 360 for Resident Evil 5?
I just came from the Outbreak launch party at SF union square sponsored by Gamestop and Capcom.

The party was held inside a big tent that occupied the area that used to be an outdoor ice-skating rink last Christmas.

There was a long line that snaked around a metal barricade before the party started at 8 p.m. but it soon started moving along as the people signed in for the main entrance where each and everyone got an orange admission wristband and a free promotional Resident Evil 5 shirt.

Upon entrance, we were screened by uniformed military personnel hired by the Umbrella Corporation and the first thing that greeted us was the stage with a big screen showing a preview footage from the game. It was exciting and exhilirating.

The fog machine, strobe lights, lively music, hired actors, media and industry professional presence, light projections, game artwork and banners added to the excitement of the evening.

I can't wait for the next launch party already!

Live 105.9 was there to provide for the music and DJ host who made the announcements for the raffle draws, contests, and the eventual introductions of the creators of the game, the actors and the director for the Resident Evil 5 game.

There were 3 areas: VIP and press area, main stage area and the gaming area.

They had lots of giveaways like free t-shirts, Venom energy drinks, M&M's "antidotes", posters, frisbees and other novelty items.

There were photo areas where you could have your photo taken and then later retrieved online and there was also a table where you can have your cell phone customized by Coveroo.com with a laser etching of the Resident Evil characters for free.

The creators of the game, the actors and the director were also there to sign autographs.

The raffle draw winners received $25 to $50 gift certificates to Gamestop and different merchandise.

My favorite part was the screaming booth where they held the screaming contest where each contestant's scream was measured by decibels via a mic connected to a computer. The 4 loudest males and females got a limited edition Resident Evil 5 Jerseys. It was rumored that only a hundred limited edition Redfield jerseys were made, so the winners got really lucky with the rare commodity!

The highlight of the evening was the official release of the Resident Evil 5 game in PS3 and 360 formats at exactly 12 midnight. The people who pre-ordered the games were given a numbered white wristband and they proceeded to the gaming area where the Resident Evil 5 games were distributed. The limited edition game packages came with a Chris Redfield action figure and a behind the scenes dvd.

The games should be available by now in your favorite online or nearby stores and be sure to check at Gamestop.com for more information.

Hundreds of teenagers, men, women, parents, locals, tourists and die hard gamers (specially Resident Evil fans) showed up for this very successful event and some people even showed up in Zombie costume and make-up complete with the bloody effects! Everybody was euphoric and happy as the party ended probably because of the sugar rush associated with the high levels of Venom energy drink in their bloodstream and the anticipation to play the latest acquisition of the coolest game in town!

Resident Evil 5 was criticized by some people as being racist because of the predominat black zombies but others reason out that the plot was set in Africa and thus necessary.

Resident Evil 4 was supposed to be somewhere in Latin America.

Sounds like a fun party. I refuse to play RE5 because there's absolutely no way it's going to surpass RE4.

Yeah, it was kinda fun.

To be honest, my friend just brought me along to the party and was surprised by the huge outcome.

From my observation...

RE5 have the most advanced graphics of all the Resident Evils and watching the making and behind the scenes footage...the creative team have employed new technology to the gaming platform.

I played the demo on the 360 and HATED the controls. I've also read it's not scary and more action oriented. Which is not what I look for in a RE game.
