Roasted Chestnuts

Posted: 12/5/04 at 5:04pmI'll pull this out of the other string and ask it here. Anybody remember when street vendors in NY would sell hot roasted chestnuts? Anybody know if they still do it anywhere? I remember seeing it from a bus when I was in high school and I always wanted to go back and get some. Now I can and I don't see them anywhere!

I have only seen them a few times in NYC but I see them all the time at amusement parks and beaches.
Sorry that I couldn't be more help.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 7:37pmNow that you mention it, I don't know. It was always a family tradition to buy and eat roasted chestnuts when we saw the store windows at Christmas time. I was there Friday night but didn't notice any chestnut vendors.

We have a Carol Sing in the South End of Hartford which is the the Italian neighborhood. I sang in a choir there one year outdoors and we put the roasted chestnuts inside our gloves to keep warm.
