A fascinating article about gun responsibility coming from the Bay. Most people turning in weapons had inherited them but still, organizers say that at least 600 are off the street. Because responsible gun owners know better.

Buy back programs go on all the time. The guns they get don't make a dent in crime, just help people clean out their closets.

This gun drive was in direct response to the Newtown shooting. They might not make a huge dent, but the people interviewed feel safer now that they guns are out of their houses. That means something to me.

You just have a negative response to every positive response on this issue.

That kind of negating was fostered by the NRA and it won't work anymore. It's just Gun Addiction.

No more.

Exactly. I don't think anyone thinks programs like this will make a big dent in street level crime. The school shootings were not street level crime--and I think it is heartening to see people are thinking about what even having these weapons in their homes can do.

Yawper, and how many accidental deaths were prevented because the guns were removed from the home?

How many crimes of impulse were prevented?

If you have a moment in time to try and change behavior, take it and do what you can in the moment while you plan for long term change.
