Who else besides me is really looking forward to this film with Scarlett Johansson and Hugh Jackman (HUGH JACKMAN!)
I've seen the trailer twice and have started to see it on television, too.

Our local critic panned it--and gave a better rating to "John Tucker Must Die"...

Posted: 7/31/06 at 11:25amI saw it Friday night. Cute film -- not a great film. I thought Scarlett was very good with the material she was given. Woody became tedious. Hugh while strinkingly, shirtlessly, droolably hot was a bit too long in the tooth to be believable.

I agree, cute, minor Allen. But at least it entertains. Woody and Scarlett have some genuinely winning chemistry, thanks to his decision to de-lecherize his own old fart role. You cannot easily believe any of the set up -- the first 20 minutes strain mightily to get the story going, such as it is. But then, once it kicks in, you smile, you laugh out loud. Hugh's role is limited in extreme -- and his private scenes with Scarlett, supposedly about their heat for one another -- are fraught wih dry kisses and adolescent declarations. He looks damned good, however, which is clearly why he's there. No acting required.
I wish Woody'd cut back on the stammer thing -- he's dangerously closed to Sandy Dennis at her most self-indulgent (Walter Kerr said of Ms. Dennis, famously: she's like an old lady in a cross walk, unable to go forward.)

Posted: 7/31/06 at 12:29pmI thought the trailer made it look like the newest revision of Match Point, where some one saw it and told Woody, "You need to make this FUNNY. And put yourself in it!" So he did.

Posted: 7/31/06 at 6:46pmI greatly enjoy Woody Allen Movies. This was funny and quite entertaining. At least Woody is not playing a boyfriend to some young gorgeous thing which was always to me quite unbelievable. It is a little bit of a mystery and comedy. He has great chemistry with Scarlett. Hugh Jackman is absolutely gorgeous and great eye candy but did not have that much to do with his part. I enjoyed Ian McShane another favorite from the Deadwood series. To say the least, I was with the fan club of Woody Allen at the show because they roared at everything he did and said. He is quite funny.
