About the finale tonight.....do you WANT to know Big's real name?

I don't know....but...I don't think I wanted to!

I think it would have been a nice touch if they left his name a mystery. It would have been like Vera Peterson on Cheers or Marris on Frasier, you make up your image. I always had my own idea what Big's real name was. Oddly enough, I always thought it was John. It sort of took the fun out of to find out I was right. I would have preferred to wonder.

I think it was essential that they show Carrie think of him by his name, rather than nickname. It demonstrated a wall in their relationship coming down, if you will.

I think by her calling him Big it always remained a little mysterious like their relationship. He was always popping in and out of her life. By finally knowing the name, I guess it means that the relationship is real. I love Chris Noth. He is sexy. I felt the name John did not fit him. I don't know why.

I agree Broadway lady John is such an average name.
Dick, Derk, Douglas something sexier would have made more sense.
I loved when he went to defend Carrie. It was so cute.
I want to see a Movie Carrie's Wedding.
Since the show was about sex and relationships Dick would have been appropriate.

I think John was the perfect name because it's so common. It
was almost symbolic. The recurring thme of this last season for each character was that they were giving up the fantasy of the ideal man and the fairy tale love to find happiness with the common, stable guy. So, given that, John is the perfect name. It symbolizes the common, the every day, the average guy who has been there in Carrie's life whom she started to take for granted but, who turned out to be her soul mate.

infiit was right...it was a effort to show that "john" finally is ready to make a commitment to kerry the show came full circle ABSOFU#$INGLUTELY....bookended the show and their relationship..a great touch and the door is left open...

side note i always hated big, hated him, he would come in and ruin her relationships, but this year i started to want big, i wanted him in her life, i think they did a good job having audience turn to him.... im in withdraw i need a cosmo!

If his name was Dick it would be funny since she called him BIG.

I could not resist. They say each of us girls have a bit of each woman on Sex. I always thought of myself as Charlotte but Samantha came out here.

Ok people, especially you orion re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Sex & the City - Did you want to know Big's name?

CaTheatreGirl can back me up that I wrote her about this on PM.

"Hi...

Yeah, John is a very common name. I know this may sounds REALLY stupid, but for some reason I think they picked a common name on purpose. I mean he was known as "Mr. Big" until that episode and giving him a common name I think it made him seem more real. More human.
"Mr. Big" was this larger than life character...he had so many BIG things. Big money. Big apartment. Big issues....etc

But in the end, he was just a normal guy that we (as the audience) can possibly find in our own lives because he just ended up being a guy who's in love with girl.

When they got together in the end, I think it was to give people (single people) hope that maybe there is someone out there for them. And he doesn't have to be "Mr. Big".....he can just be an every day "John". "

Orion59 -

I just meant that I thought it was neat that we appeared to agree on the whole "Big" issue. I was kind of thinking I didn't make much sense when I PMed it with CaTheatreGirl but I'm glad that someone else saw it the same way. I didn't mean it in a bad way at all. Sorry if it came out that way, but I guess that's the one drawback of communicating through message boards. Hope there are no hard feeling, Orion.

On the same page, I thought that there was SO much symbolism in the final episode, way to much to type out all of it. But I did I love it. For example, when Carrie couldn't find her trademark "Carrie" necklace (for those of you who watch, you know where she got the necklace) it seemed that it symbolized the fact that she really couldn't see herself in that whole life in Paris. Then when she found it again, it was like she had a realization that she didn't belong there, she needed to be her own perso, not standing in the shadow of someone else.
I loved the last episode, they definately did not leave me disappointed with the direction they chose.

Bronte, This just proves that great minds do think alike. I honestly thought that that was what you emnat but, wanted to double check because I'm not always claer in my posts on what I'm trying to express.

I think a lot of what happened to Carrie in the streets of Paris was also symbolic of her being in a situation she needed to get out of. Stepping in the dog mess was especially significant. Like she had had left her home, friends and a city she loved and stepped right into a mess.
