Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs with the voice actors from Cinderella

In the 1950's Disney films had read along books on record players. There was a version of 'Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs' with Ilene Woods (best known as the voice of Cinderella) as Snow White and Eleanor Audley (who voiced Lady Tremaine in Cinderella and Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty) as the Wicked Queen. The story was narrated by Dennis Day. Though Woods had a lovely voice, both speaking and singing, it is a little unusual hearing her as Snow White because she sounds so different from Adriana Caselotti.

Never heard this before, but I love it! Great to hear such iconic Disney voices playing other Disney roles. Ilene Woods's singing voice is just beautiful (no surprise there), but it's strange to hear her as Snow White. (Not bad, just odd.)

And there will never be another Eleanor Audley. She has one of those voices like Paul Frees that, whenever I hear it, I have this visceral reaction.

Ah, these bring back such memories. The Disney read along tapes/books were a huge part of my childhood. I remember hiding under the covers with my Fisher Price tape player listening to the story tapes.

I hope my children can have similar memories.
